How about a "Sick Day Button"?

I was sick recently and it came on so sudden that when my shipping day came around I had several orders that needed to be shipped.  I had no time to think about "Time Away" functions.

If ebay wanted to help sellers what would really be helpful (Especially in the age of covid-19) would be an "Emergency Delay Function".   Something where if a SUDDEN onset emergency hits a seller can suspend sales and also automatically notify buyers that their items "shipping will be delayed but that if they wish to cancel the transaction and get a full refund they are welcome to do so."

This would allow the seller an easy way out of worrying about ebay punishing them for not shipping on time while also protecting the buyer from having to wait for something.  If the buyer doesn't like waiting they can get a refund no questions asked and the seller doesn't have to deal with buyer abuse.

A function like this is long overdue.  There's no reason why we can't have something like this when emergencies hit all the time for any and all reasons.

Just a suggestion for ebay of a function that would ACTUALLY HELP SELLERS!  How about something like that for an update instead of just telling us how we're going to pay more fees?

I don't see Movieman as being in any way a 'contrarian' or that he was better than the rest of us - a great many people on here have probably sold more than a million (heck, even I have sold probably half a million on here since I started and I'm a two-bit seller*), just showing that he is committed to his work on eBay.  I don't agree with the idea, but hardly feel personal about it.

*it adds up shockingly.

I just want you all to know.  I was only trying to make a suggestion I thought could help sellers in a time of personal crisis.  I'm not trying to start arguments or offend anyone.

I don't know if it's just part of the cycle but as of right now my site traffic is less than half it was each day for the last 60 days.  I don't know why my traffic has died today.  I just think it's ironic how I post this thread and the very next day my business is one sale for $10.00 and traffic is halved.

If I offended someone who works for ebay I'm sorry.  That was not my intention.  Please don't punish my account.  This is my livelihood.  This is how I feed my children.  It has been my life for decades.

I'm sorry.  I won't be posting any more on the forums.  I can't afford to lose my ability to provide for my family by sticking my neck out trying to make suggestions.

I will be silent from now on.

I'm sorry to see that you had bad sales today.  I'm confident it has nothing to do with your post.  Other than a handful of people who are Id'd as such, nobody here is an eBay employee.  Nobody did anything to your acct b/c you posted something others disagreed with.  You can even post negatively about eBay & it won't affect your account.  We're in the after-Xmas doldrums & I have had very up & down days for the last 2 weeks too.

I don't think your idea is a bad idea.  It COULD be helpful in emergency situations, but eBay is not going to implement something like that, so it's irrelevant in many ways.  Even if everyone thought it was the greatest idea of all time, we could not get eBay to implement it.   I don't personally think it's that different from what Time Away does.  I DO see the appeal of a 'press 1 button', but with Time Away you're pressing 2 buttons if memory serves me right, so it's pretty simple to set up.

I don't recall if it was you or someone else who brought up HEPA (sic), it's actually HIPAA & it has absolutely no bearing here, as it is a law that affects primarily medical providers, institutions. the US Govt in relation to Medicare, etc.  It does not apply to private individuals or corporate entities (except in some cases directly related to your medical care).

No one is attacking you, they are disagreeing with your idea, which is NOT an attack on YOU.   I have not seen any ad hominem attacks, only people critiquing your IDEA.

Corporations do not have "heart", "compassion" or "empathy".  A corporation is not a sentient being.  Corporations are run by people, though certainly the culture of a company can/does have an effect on policies.  I think if this was 20 years ago, when eBay was a privately held company & Meg Whitman was telling us all that eBay was going to give sellers a health insurance option, something like this would have had a much greater chance.  Sellers were viewed more as partners, by those people, a generation ago, under a completely different online marketplace scenario & corporate structure.  The world is a different place now, online shopping is radically different, so the corporation's priorities will be different.  Also, eBay is now a public company, which means they have one master (it's not sellers OR buyers) & for those and other reasons, it's simply not going to happen these days.   We could all agree with you & it still wouldn't happen.

I hope your sales pick up.  Mine too, while I'm at it.

But you did say it was "annoying" that people didn't agree with you.

I find it annoying that people posting here actually believe they are so dangerous to eBay that eBay would retaliate against them. Good grief.

@movieman630  Trust me when I say this - I've actually been kicked off this forum a couple of times and given 'time outs' because I've been too spicy.  My sales are the same as always.

No one at eBay cares that you came out with a idea that may or may not be unpopular with other eBay users, no one is going to block your sales or even particularly pay attention. This thread is mild compared to some. No one with any commonsense is going to hold this against you in any way - it was an idea obviously worth hashing out. Some maybe with a bit too much passion.

Seriously, don't take it so hard.  I think it's better to be a bit controversial than be a little goody two-shoes.  I remember one rather stuffy person here telling me after I came back from a month 'vacation' under the old regime (before Khoros) for something really pretty soft ball:  "Well *I've* never had a time out!"  I told her I was sorry to hear that lol.

ETA:  Edited for wrong words.

Hey @movieman630 !

I was against your idea but in no way at all do I hold it against you.

We have different opinions.  That's all.

Yours just happens to be wrong and mine happens to be right. JUST KIDDING! 😉

I think it's a "good" idea, I just don't think it's feasible.

No hard feelings whatsoever.  I mean that.

That was a kind gesture on your part @inhawaii .  How do you feel about making it two?  Your current siggie line causes me great consternation.  When I was a kid, that song always made me very sad.  Over the next 40 years, my reaction to it has become much more vehement.  It's now buckets of tears if I accidentally hear it.  I have to quick change the channel anytime it comes on.

Don't get me wrong, it's a great song.  A great song should make you feel & it does.  But dammit, I don't want to feel, quite this much!  Just seeing the song title gives me a visceral response.   Is it perhaps time to switch siggies 🤔😰😀?  Perhaps you'll take pity on me 😊  I always look forward to seeing what lyric/song you'll have for us next 😍

Lol. Done! You’ll thank me tomorrow.

You got me back in here with that page. Without delving into the thread topic @movieman630 , @chapeau-noir is right that there is no relation to your or anyone’s comments on these boards with your sales but mere coincidence. We’ve all had bad sales days and it’s always unsettling when we can’t find an explanation for it. It’s hard to accept the randomness that sometimes we try to find a false cause to make ourselves feel better.

Don’t believe me? Try over praising eBay in these boards day after day and tell me if your sales skyrocket. Good luck.

PS: I TOTALLY LOVE EBAY IT’S THE GREATEST THING EVER SINCE SLICED BREAD.

Hush your mouth, now!  The paper bag that I'm mandated to wear over my head is uncomfortable enough. 😞

Hey, Chapeau-Noir, I have been contacted by eBay, by regular post and personal email and text messaging, to let me know that you have many very fine items for sale, at remarkably reasonable prices, and that I would doubtless be pleased with them and with the splendid customer service you provide.

In a postscript, it was noted that the correspondence had nothing to do with your activity on the Community forums, in case I was wondering.

So, I'm off now to peruse your listings.
