Hello
I am brand new to selling on EBay, and just sold a cell phone today. However, I cannot see any payment pending in my PP account, and I am not actually sure I got paid (even though the buyer marked payment sent). The buyer told me that once I ship and email PP the tracking and receipt as proff, the money will be cleared and transferred into my account. Is this accurate? Any help/feedback from experienced sellers is appreciated. Anywhere I can look on the Ebay page to know whether the funds were sent?
Rich

Thanks very much for your excellent advice and tips. Is it just too much of a jungle to list an iphone on Ebay for a new seller? Thoughts? My first selling attempt has left me not very excited about the whole EBay experience.

Totally agree. Looks like I have walked into a selling jungle, and I almost got eaten alive!

All buyers have 100% positive feedback. Ebay did away with negative feedback for buyers in May of 2008. There is no physical way to leave a neg, and negative comments in buyer feedback is a policy violation. If a buyer complains about it, the feedback is removed and the seller gets a policy violation recorded on their account.
Thank you for flying Ebay Airlines! We hope you enjoyed giving us the business as much as we enjoyed taking you for a ride! (heh, that should be my new signature line! Wonder how long the mods would let it...fly?)

New sellers should not be allowed to sell cell phones!
You need to contact eBay and have this sale cancelled, tell them to look at the message your buyer sent you.
I've been here for a long time and the message your buyer sent is sending up red flags. . .

eBay needs to offer a class for new sellers
eBay 101
You don't sell until you pass the course. . .

What does this new seller do if the buyer pays?
We all know the buyer is a scammer by the message they sent.
They will pay, file a SNAD and return a used broken phone.
Customer Service can cancel the transaction with no defect for the seller. . .

While that is certainly a risk, in this case we're talking about a different scam. The message they sent in this case is the fake-notification scam, where the seller is instructed to ship and upload his tracking information in order to see the funds deposited in his account. Obviously, no funds ever appear, and by the time the seller realizes that no funds are going to show up, the package is well on its way to the scammer.
What you're describing is the return scam, where the scammer does make a payment, the seller ships, but when the phone arrives, the scammer discovers a supposed problem with it, files a dispute and wants to return it. The seller gets back a piece of junk, but eBay/PayPal issue the refund anyway as soon as the package tracking shows its arrival back at the seller's place.

I'm saying that this is a double scam, they try the 1st way and if that doesn't work they pay and do a return scam.
The seller becomes a victim no matter how they handle it. . .
"but eBay/PayPal issue the refund anyway as soon as the package tracking shows its arrival back at the seller's place."
The seller has like 5 days to refund after receiving the returned item. . .
