Hello

I am brand new to selling on EBay, and just sold a cell phone today. However, I cannot see any payment pending in my PP account, and I am not actually sure I got paid (even though the buyer marked payment sent). The buyer told me that once I ship and email PP the tracking and receipt as proff, the money will be cleared and transferred into my account. Is this accurate? Any help/feedback from experienced sellers is appreciated. Anywhere I can look on the Ebay page to know whether the funds were sent?

DO NOT SHIP!

You are being scammed. You are a new seller and selling an item that will get you scammed repeatedly.

You do not ship until your paypal account shows an accepted payment and says ship now.

As a new seller even when paypal says ship now you are likely to be scammed and hit with every trick in the book for the buyer to keep the phone and your money.

You are one up on most first time sellers, they usually come ask this question AFTER they have shipped the phone.

Just to be redundant, you do NOT ship until you have logged into Paypal to verify the payment has cleared.

Scammers pray on new sellers with cell phones, laptops, etc for exactly the reason you are here on the forums: they are counting on inexperience of the new sellers and will try to trick them into shipping the item out without payment.

If you insist on selling your cell phone here, I highly recommend you read these boards and search for *scam* and *cell phone* as key words and just relax and read some of the things that have gone on here and you will learn A LOT.

Additonally, in the future you should list your item with a fixed price buy it now, and probably better NOT to have Best Offer on it (which you must used the Advanced LIsting tool to eliminate), and require immediate payment to avoid this type of scam.

The buyer is telling you wrong. You get a paid email from PP, then you go check your PP account to see if payment has been received. Never ship until it tells you to.

From what little I can glean, your "winner" is a PRIVATE bidder with 29 bids on geek stuff in the last 1 hour.
If you need anymore red flags, I have some leftovers.

You are being scammed.

You ship when paypal, after you have gone there and logged in yourself - says you have been paid and it is ok to ship. And ship ONLY to the address on the paypal payment.

And might I reccommend that you only list your cell phone after you have the same amount of recent selling feedback as the dollar value of the item you are listing. Unless you can afford to lose the item and the money and pay the shipping and fees to do so.

Do not forget to file the Unpaid Item Dispute on the buyer after the required amount of time AND to put the buyer on your blocked bidder list.

Surely you noticed that the scam follows ebay's new slogan - List - Ship - Get Paid. ebay is facillitating the scam by not removing that blurb, changing the wording, or at least putting up some warnings about the basic scam.

Absolutely Rose...if it were not for those coming here first there would be so many more.

How many thousands of newbie sellers need to get burnt before ebay realizes they are part of the problem?

I'm getting abit ticked off about this!

I have been here for years and I have tried to have a fair balance in my comments.

Ebay needs to step up and do what is RIGHT because THEY have caused the problem with their Phone promos.

Curious question for the ebay vets...if you use ebay labels, and you DON'T get that "buyer hasn't paid yet" notice, do you auto ship?
I do...have never been burned.

Hi Nawlins,

For years I always have had my ebay page and my paypal page up at the same time long before their were glitches and issues with folks not paying.

I can tell immediately when I refresh my PP page if I have been paid and have never needed to go and actually check the specific pp transaction although at times I have.

So in a way...yes I always check my PP balance every morning at minimum...but never to directly see if an indiviual sale actually went through.

So far it has always worked...but I also have never used an Iphone to do this part of my business...just my desktop.
