So, here's where we are headed. eBay has basically removed most specific categories and everything is now in a generalized category with some kind of specific. They have also changed PL to ad pay per click. These search results show the consequences (intended or unintended the jury is out).
Loetz is a type of glass (used to be a category 😞 ). I have done this search just typing in the name for like forever. Never have I ever had results come up that not only never had Loetz in the title. But the top result--a promoted listing--here does not only not have it in the title. Not in the description. And, it's not even a Piece of glass a book on the topic, etc.
The point of search is the shortest distance between a customer and an item. No one wants polluted search results.

My grandmother's two green pressed glass vases with gold trim -- vases, to hold flowers -- have suddenly been categorized as serving bowls.
I am highly disappointed, to say the least.
Fury is creeping up on me . . . . . . . . .

"You don't have to go home, you just can't stay here." Remember that when the bar closes and the band sang or said that? Good timing, bots...ebay...whatEVER! The holidays are the perfect time for this. (Not!)

A fast search with the term loetz does ok. Of course its the best thing...
When switched to new listings get one or two garbage listings with it.
Not bad for this search: some I do get a great deal more junk not related to it.

Hi! This is currently expected behavior. We're in the process of adjusting categories from concept-based categories to more dynamic product-based categories (we announced this last month here if you'd like to read more about it). The end-goal is actually less disruptions like this, and as we shift towards utilizing Item Specifics more and unique subcategories less, we're confident in that outcome.
While this move is in process you will see some unusual results, but rest assured that we expect this to be back to running as you'd expect within a few days. Thanks for your patience @glasser!

They have also changed PL to ad pay per click.
Incorrect..........they have ADDED a pay per click OPTION to PL..........you can still use it as it has been used in the past.......paying only if an item sells.......

@ monroe67 my Tiffany Favrile, art glass and bronze candlestick got sent to
I suspect they tried to use some AI photo recognition to determine new category placement. Hope they didn't overpay for that

I did a search a couple days ago for a trading card set and at the top was a rear axle for a Ford 3500 truck.

@donsdetour just the beginning as using PL becomes a necessity to sell anything we will have lots of pollution. The example I gave shows that eBay is willing to put a promoted listing with ZERO relevance to the search parameters into the results.
Search is supposed to help you find what you are looking for not show you irrelevant items.

velvet@ebay I only have a couple of items up now (took one down) they are auctions. A couple of days is a lifetime for an auction. My art glass antique art nouveau candlestick got moved to dinnerware bowls.
Please don't tell me that's expected and that the several days of confusion is not going to negatively impact sellers.
I took down an item today that pre-change would have had at least 30-40 views in 24 hours. It had 3. Thankfully no bids so ended it. If I end items now that people have bid on, there is no reason like eBay not really working today, I anger bidders and hurt my product as reselling after canceling an auction implies something is wrong.
asking for patience is fine. I'd be happier to have a place where eBay really listens.

Not so unusual as you may think. Its very normal for a search to show JUNK not related to the search. A problem for a long long time.

@donsdetour I have seen high priced PL ietms appear in sort by lowest. I have been doing this search years and never till today did I see 100% irrelevant item at the top of the list. Sure some categories are worse since keywords can be somewhat interchangeable If I say camera in a title or say camera case or say camera tripod all could possible be combined even I was only looking for a camera. If I am selling clicks--as eBay now does-the the interest is less in relevance and more in clicks.

Tiffany. Not quite the same thing as a Corelle casserole that was mass marketed in the early 1970s, is it?
Disgusting. These changes are just plain ludicrous.
