Sometimes you can google search what you think the name says and approximate location. Even if you didn't get the name right you might be shown the correct name and extra info.
I like photos and other items with names on them, and often they are hard to read, so I do this a lot. Findagrave.com has been pretty useful. If this is an item for sale make sure you include the info. A lot of people are on ebay searching for items from their family.
