Help with dealing with a buyer that may be a scammer

Hi, I have a weird issue. Listed an item on eBay as an auction. It ended today and the winning bid was a person with 4 feedback (2 of them says hes a scammer who pays a pending charge on paypal and then pulls the payment once you ship it). I just received a notice from paypal stating that I have a pending payment and the buyer sends me a message asking for my address because "I'm not in the US", which I am. What should I do at this point? If I cancel the sale, he/she may give me a negative feedback. Having trouble finding eBay's contact number to ask for advice.. they seem to keep it hidden.

Call Ebay and Paypal and explain how this is a thief and when will they be shutting down the account.

The foreign scammers have discovered this loophole and it needs to be shut.

He's reseller, I've gotten a few of those. He has a bunch of listings for easy to pick up items and when he sells it he buys from some auction or someone else and then reships it his customer. If anything happens he dings your account. I also get them from Amazon sellers, they duplicate my posting on Amazon and if anyone buys it, they buy one from me and ship it to their customer. They will bug the hell out of you for a tracking number because they NEED it for their customer. If they get to many dings, they just open another account and start over.

The reason the payment is pending is because, he's waiting for his funds to clear too.

Good luck.

Also if he's a scammer and gives you a bad feed back, just call ebay during the day, and tell them what happened, they will remove the bad rating from the your account. The i've ever gotten where from scammers, and I just called ebay and they were removed. Rather quick too.

Apologies, @barronn30. I did the wrong thing giving you that eBay phone number, now removed by a mod. Start with the Help & Contact decision tree to get the appropriate number to call. (Links are at the bottom of probably every page.) Plus, that should give you a one-time code that'll help get you to the right group based on where the decision tree leads you. I'm sure you'll prevail, and hopefully help get this scammer booted. He'll probably resurface, but it'll slow his roll for a few days.

Re: Help with dealing with a buyer that may be a scammer

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to post an update:

The buyer eventually pulled back the payment and I was able to file it as an unpaid claim.

Had to wait until like two days ago until I could've closed the case to reclaim my seller fees.

I think the buyer is still active unfortunately.

But thanks to everyone for the help!!

How pathetic is that?

OP - glad you were able to hold onto your item and not fall into this loophole!

A buyer cannot pull a payment once it is sent.  That is a misconception.

However, it may be that the payment was no good to begin with.  Possibly an echeck.

That is why it is important you go into your paypal acount.  Do this on a computer ot laptop, not you phone.

Make sure your payment is in there and you get an OK to ship.

Do not give out your personal email address.  He does not need your address either.

Not sure how other sellers were able to leave backhanded feedback for him though.

All a seller has to do is leave a negative comment in the positive feedback formate provided.  It will show as a green positive but with the negative comment.  It can be removed by CS and the seller can get a violation as this is against policy.

So they said "Ebay and pay pal won't release buyers funds until it is shipped?" Love how these scammers invent ebay and pay pal rules that do not exist.

Ebay's slogan is List it, ship it, get paid.
