I received an email this afternoon that a PayPal case opened for an item I recently sold. It was delivered 04/28 and the case was opened today 05/05. My PayPal balance is already showing negative.
Is this a PayPal dispute or a chargeback, and what is the best way to handle it? I print my labels directly though eBay and shipped to a confirmed address. The buyer’s address on eBay, PayPal and where the tracking shows the package was delivered are all a match.
This is something I've never been through before and it's very frustrating so I appreciate everyone's help. I know it's always best to get your ducks in a row before calling eBay or PayPal.
Thanks to all who can help. 🙂

I sent the buyer a message through eBay, but I haven't heard back from them yet. Now the following is a bit of speculation, but I noticed the first name on the card used is different from the first name on the eBay account. A quick Google search leads me to believe the eBay account belongs to the child of the card holder.
Now if anyone can clarify, does PayPal's seller protection mean the funds will eventually be released to me no matter the outcome of the case, or just that I won't have to pay the chargeback fee if the case isn't decided in my favor?

It means the funds will be released to you no matter what. Now PayPal sometimes pulls a trick out of ebays handbook and they close the chargeback in the buyers favor and hit you with a fee even though you are covered by seller protection, but they will reverse that if you call and complain.

To repeat......
In an Unauthorized Use claim via PayPal, if you have proof that you printed a shipping label to the address provided with payment AND the label received at least ONE scan of any kind from USPS you WILL win, your funds WILL be returned in full.
How or why an Unauthorized Use claim was made in completely irrelevant, it could be the charge was not recognized by the cardholder, it could be that the card was stolen or it could be another reason. It really doesn't matter one bit nor does it matter if PayPal has to refund the credit card company or not. The bottom line is still the same.....if you have the required information you will get your money back...ALL of it.

Good news, I received an email today saying the chargeback case has been decided in my favor. The funds are now available again. Now it's still within the 30 day return window so I wouldn't be surprised if that's the next step, but I'll cross that bridge if I come to it.
I've marked this thread as solved, thanks again to all who helped. 🙂

They can’t file through eBay because of the chargeback 🙂

Good to know, I wasn't aware of that. Thanks
