Help, ebay wont change the url redirects which is causing me grief

Im in hot water with a competitor business which i used to be part of years ago and since disbanded. I then changed ALL of my details on my account to my new name, HOWEVER ebay still has a reference to the old company which redirects to my proper store when a person searches ebay.com/str/travois. the competitor is rightfully upset that it appears my store is linked to their company and has served legal documents, I have called ebay twice and explained everything VERY clearly and each time in broken english they tell me it will get sorted out in 24-72 with certainty, this has obviously failed to happen both times and nobody reaches out like a proper company would do if there is some sort of confusion. It is extremely aggravating spending upwards of an hour on the phone each time to be misled and to get nowhere, does anybody have ANY ideas of how to get  this rectified short of spending money getting a lawyer to deal with which it really shouldnt come to..

Have you considered ending your store subscription, waiting thirty days, and then resubscribing under a different store name? That should ensure you get a new store URL.

Help, ebay wont change the url redirects which is causing me grief

Hi @theswivelshop . eBay customer service overseas reps are notorious for telling you to wait 24-48 hrs and the situation will be resolved. It's clear the reps you spoke with had no idea eBay Store URLs can not be changed, even when you change the Store name. This is a change eBay deliberately made several years ago and it's caused a lot of frustration among sellers.

The only method now available to sellers to change the Store URL is to close the store and then open a new store with the new name and URL. Your listings will continue to run without the store.

Check your subscription early termination fee (link) before deciding when to close the store - although since you've been served with legal papers you may want to suck it up and pay that fee.

After closing a store, eBay will hold that name and URL for 30 days in case you want to reopen the store. Since you have already changed your store name to your "permanent" name, you would have to wait over 30 days to use it on a new store and get the new URL. Keep in mind that someone else could grab the name after 30 days so you'll want to schedule alerts in your calendar.

It also means after you close your store it will be 30 days before the other business can take that name/URL back, but at least it would no longer be appearing on your account.

There are two ways to handle the 30 day waiting period:

1) Close your store, wait over 30 days with no store, and open a new store with the permanent name to get a matching URL.

2) Change your store name to something temporary. Use that temporary name for over 30 days while waiting for your "permanent" store name to become available again. Then close the store with the temporary name and open a new store with the permanent name.

Because you've been served with legal papers I assume you'd have to go with option 1, not option 2, so you can immediately release the URL associated with the other business name.

After opening the new store, your listings will be imported, but you will need to manually start over by re-creating your store categories, banner, about section, etc.

---------------

Hey devon@ebay . The good news is CS is no longer giving sellers a deprecated link to change Store URLs thanks to your help escalating feedback 2 years ago (link).

The bad news is CS, or at least the multiple reps the original poster spoke with, is not giving out info that URL can't be changed and the seller has to close the store, etc (see my above post) to get a new URL.

Can you have those CS calls reviewed for coaching, and also work with the Stores team to make sure they have language in the CS internal docs that explains how sellers need to deal with this type of situation along with potential pitfall factors like early termination fees and the 30 day waiting period? Thanks in advance!

All you can do to change your store URL is to unsubscribe, then open a new store under a different name.

Years ago, you could change the URL when you changed the store name, but not any more.

Have A Great Day.

thanks so much that was an incredible help, problem has been sorted but im still left wondering why the song and dance and lies from the agents on the phone, like how does it benefit ebay to string along sellers and waste so much time instead of giving the proper information like this. imagine how much better customer service they could provide if people didnt always have to call multiple times for the same thing!!
