Help cancelling a hijacked order

I recently had my seller account hijacked while I was selling an iPhone. The hijacker took control of my account and reduced the buy it now price from $950 to $19, bought the item and paid $19, then left a note saying the buyer bought the item with a $1000 promotional coupon and for me to ship the item and I would receive my $950 payment on 12/25.

Of course I knew this was fraud so I contacted eBay security where I was able to chat on the phone with "Samuel", who is an overseas eBay rep that reset my password to secure my account. He informed me that eBay could do nothing until I contacted my bank to dispute the $52 seller fee that was charged to me when the hijacker ended my auction early, only then would eBay investigate the case.

So here I am with a fraudulent sale on my account, no contact from eBay yet, and no way to contact any eBay official to get this fraudulent pending order off of my account.

Can anyone give me any help as to where to turn for assistance with this?

I have had my eBay account for more than 20 years but I am at the point now that I just want to clear this order off of my account  and close it out permanently.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Help cancelling a hijacked order

The scammer/hacker changed the buy it now price an purchased the item under what I would guess is a fake or false eBay user ID for $19...in order to cancel the order I would need to refund the scammer the $19...

As you should. If you cancel the order for problem with buyers address or as customer requested the refund process will happen automatically. EBay will also credit you back the fees.

Shouldn't eBay Security be doing more than this on a hacked account, or is there some miscommunication between the parties?

Hey @ferncliff-39! In cases such as this where unfortunately a bad actor was able to access a seller's account we always advise to reach out to customer support. From reading the thread it does appear OP did and the rep walked them through resetting their password to their account. I always advise to go one step further and to reset the password on your email account that is used on eBay as well. Many times we see that bad actors gain access to eBay and other online accounts through a members email. Also when a seller does reach out to customer support and have their account actioned for it being accessed from an unknown person/source we will have the account credited for any selling fees that occured from sales that you, the seller do not recognize.

devon@ebay  - it's not clear then why the seller has to have their bank dispute the seller fees?  Can't Security see this account was compromised with the bogus sale?

@ferncliff-39 For any account that is a selling account and has had account activity that caused selling fees that was not done by the seller themselves then we (eBay) will credit those selling fees. The seller would not need to reach out to their bank to dispute.

The only time members would need to do that is if their account was compromised and had purchase done that the member does not recognize. The member would then need to reach out to their bank to dispute the charges.

The item was listed on @mandy7871 's account. It has been removed from the site, because of the hijacking most likely. I found a cached copy of it from before it was removed. Although this page says it sold for $950, the listing does show up in Terapeak, which confirms that it actually sold for $19.

cached page: https://www.ebay.com/itm/276223099576

I want to clear the order off because it's fraudulent.

If you can't understand why I would want to properly clear this order out after having my seller account hijacked then I'm afraid I can't relate to your reasoning.

You said your goal was to close your account.

But I see from your other response that your real goal is to cancel the transaction but keep the $19 the buyer  paid you.

If your account was hacked and the price was lowered, you cannot be sure the buyer who paid $19 is innocent. They might have just been lucky.
