Hello! I'm new to ebay and have always seen SKUs mentioned when it comes to selling. I know it's used to track inventory but if we only have single quantities of items we sell, how are SKUs generated?
Thank you in advance!

A stock-keeping unit (SKU) is an alphanumeric code that identifies a product and helps you track inventory for your retail business. The information your SKU includes is completely up to you. Depending on the type of inventory, your SKU number can include identifying information for everything—from department to style, gender, size, and color. You can create SKU numbers manually or automate the process with an inventory management or POS (point of sale) system.

SKUs are made up by the seller.
They can be used to include info in the listing that only you can see.
Some examples I've seen are:
Location: Bin A
Location and cost of goods: Bin A 4.99
Location, cost of goods, and how old: Bin A 4.99 Dec24

You can enter the Custom Label (SKU) when creating listings. It appears on your Items Awaiting Shipment and other sold screens. That is handy for pulling the merchandise you sold out of storage. It also appears on the shipping labels you create on eBay. That helps you match the label to the merchandise to avoid errors mixing up labels. I enter the Manufacturer Part Number into the Custom Label (SKU) field.

I have never printed a Packing List on eBay. So I am unfamiliar if it appears there.
The Create Labels screen has a section entitled "Additional Options". There is a check box next to the words "Add custom text on label". Clicking that will enable your Custom Label (SKU) to print on your shipping label. You can add/modify/delete the text that automatically populates within the rectangle, 50 characters max.
The words print to the right of the addresses. You need to rotate the label 1/4 turn counterclockwise to read it.
