Help! Torn on how to handle this.

Buyer purchased a lovely japanese custom moriage plate. Shipped in bubble wrap, 3 times. Put into a solid wood box. Put into a larger box wrapped in bubble wrap 3 times  and filled with peanuts. It wasn't going anywhere.


Receive email today. Plate totally smashed. Asked for photo's as I had insurance on the plate and then I would refund. 

 

Oops.....sent the plate as a present to her sister. No phone, no internet. Say's could return via post office, but that nullifies insurance. 

 

What's the next step?

What the heck does "confirm the damage" mean? If she goes to the post office, she can mail the darn thing back to you. Period. Keep this simple and concise. They return, you refund. No Sturm und Drang needed.

I know it's a scam, too. That is why you need to only tell her to request a return. Period.

And we explained to you in a previous conversation that your "style" to refund wihthout question ENCOURAGES SCAMS! She probably saw your conversation here about how you treat dissatisfied customers with automatic refund plus 10%.

Now...do you understand what we were telling you?
So, no, it was not completely uncalled for. We are regulars here, and we are supposed to try to help each other out. We tried telling you that your accommodating buyers, and then advertising on these boards that you bend over backwards for positive feedback, was going to invite scam buyers.
And here we are.

It was intended to be four upwards-pointing arrows aimed at your very concise reply #6 (here), but in the time it took to draft that reply, another reply or two snuck in between, so it was no longer clear what the "This ^^^^" posting was supposed to be pointing at.

DId she forward the plate to her sister?  If yes, then you do NOt owe her a sent.  She lost her buyer protection by forwarding it.       I am sure that she did NOT ship a broken plate to her sister.  Tell her, sorry , but you do NOT have buyer protection anymore.     I have copies of your email and I will be calling ebay and paypal now.        Tell her that her only chance of a claim is  if she insured it when she shipped to her sister.  She is responsible for the plate because she sent it!

I personally see all sides to this.  I agree with the simple "return for refund" philosophy.  But i also think that some of the "regulars"  here think that being a regular here makes them always right.  So, while i agree with their advice on this topic they could try to give it without being so pushy or condescending. Just my opinion 🙂

The mailing address was not to the purchaser but another verified address she had on PayPal and eBay.
