Help! Torn on how to handle this.

Buyer purchased a lovely japanese custom moriage plate. Shipped in bubble wrap, 3 times. Put into a solid wood box. Put into a larger box wrapped in bubble wrap 3 times  and filled with peanuts. It wasn't going anywhere.

Receive email today. Plate totally smashed. Asked for photo's as I had insurance on the plate and then I would refund.

Oops.....sent the plate as a present to her sister. No phone, no internet. Say's could return via post office, but that nullifies insurance.

What's the next step?

but she could still file a CB.

really don't get why you didn't try to file an insurance claim with NO pics.

you had nothing to lose.

then if denied; tell her to open a case and return for a refund.

clearly you buyer didn't open a case, did she?

if no case opened...

you are not limited to 4 days to resolve the situation.

you had plenty time to handle this buyer.

This ^^^^  Return for refund.

Not understanding your reply? All that's appearing between the words This and Refund are four carat marks, so not sure what word that's meant to represent. Remember, I'm just a clueless Southern gal! 😏

It was intended to be four upwards-pointing arrows aimed at your very concise reply #6 (here), but in the time it took to draft that reply, another reply or two snuck in between, so it was no longer clear what the "This ^^^^" posting was supposed to be pointing at.

Just click on quote to include what you are replying to.  Your carats are confusing

I'll try do do this ^^^ in the future.   I'm new here.

I don't believe I've ever said I wouldn't pursue a claim. Of course I will, however without the pic's and the customer's unwillingness to provide them, it is not going to give me some solid footing. Just the same, it may pay off.

Second to that...my buyer is now quiet for the moment. I will enjoy the silence for as long as it lasts.

never said you said that.

just not understanding the chain of events.

in 1 of your latest replies, you said,

you asked the buyer to return for a refund.

i would have filed the insurance claim first with no pics.

and if denied, ask the buyer to open a case and to return for a refund.

sounds more logical to me ( within my logic of things).

along this thread i have also questioned the need for pics?

i don't have much experience with USPS insurance claims.

but do any of you know for a fact that the USPS requires pics, nowadays?...

or is it just a rumor?

last claim i filed was in 2014 and did not provide pics (i could have but bypassed the option).

the USPS paid my claim in 1 week.

the USPS didn't ever require the buyer to go in.

This insurance claim for damage is a ripe issue for scammers. I really wish that Ebay would require that the buyer go to the P.O. with the damaged parcel and claim the insurance. It makes sense now does it not. They are in possession of the said damaged item. The picture baloney is just baloney. Anybody can just break the darn item, smash the box etc. That's why buyer submitting photo's is useless. Understand it is for the buyers convienience when a seller does not ship an item properly but, they can fetch the money from the insurance as well as the seller.
