Help Please - USPS Chargeback Dispute Process

Received Ebay generated USPS chargeback in PP for $10.23. No message from Ebay. The item in question shipped in a Regional Rate A box weighing 2.07 lbs. Postage purchased on Ebay $10.80 to CA (have receipt and USPS acceptance receipt showing weight). Ebay CS sounded clueless but said she filed a USPS dispute by email and would let me know results. Is that standard procedure? Thanks for any assistance.

Chargebacks are not done through Ebay, they are done through the payment processor-Paypal.

Perhaps chargeback is the wrong term. There was no email from ebay just a PP charge generated by Ebay for additional postage.

OK you just got a postal clerk that didn't understand the postal system and choose the wrong shipping rate when checking your package. They billed ebay for addition postage and ebays passing along the bill to you. You were correct and they were wrong, but you'll spend a ton of time getting it corrected....

Yes chargeback is the wrong term. A chargeback is a disputed credit card payment.

You were back charged under the automated postage verification system.  And bubbleman is right, it will take some risk to come it get sorted out.

Thanks bubbleman. Will I receive an email from Ebay with dispute instructions? Or will whatever the CS sent by email to USPS do the job?

I go the other way mine sometimes has to much postage paid and ebay sends me a notice from USPS about over payment and the money is put back in my paypal account. I would suspect ebay will just debit your paypal  account for the money owed...

You can dispute any adjustment with the USPS directly by sending an email to VerifyPostageHelp@usps.gov.  This email should include the following information:

- The Tracking # of the package.
- The Adjustment ID associated with the adjustment.
- The reason or explanation for the dispute (please provide as much detail as possible).

If the USPS requires more information, they will reach out (after a manicure, emery board, etc) to you via email.

Thanks hafoster. Since I have not received an email from Ebay, how do I find the Adjustment ID?

It's actually optional.

Your tracking number and contact info is what USPS needs.

Are you sure you didn't use a Regional Rate B box?  The sum of your charges equals $21.03, which would be Regional Rate B to zone 8.

Good point but definitely Regional A for two standard mugs. 🙂
