Help Needed with Delivery Attempt Notice for Receptacle Full

Hi Everyone,

I'm facing an issue with one of my orders. The tracking information for the order shows the following message (USPS):

"Delivery Attempt: Action Needed Notice Left (Receptacle Full/Item Oversized), We attempted to deliver your item at 3:37 pm on July 13, 2024 in HAIKU, HI 96708 and a notice was left because the receptacle was full or the item was oversized. You may arrange redelivery by using the Schedule a Redelivery feature on this page or may pick up the item at the Post Office indicated on the notice beginning July 15, 2024. If this item is unclaimed by July 28, 2024 then it will be returned to sender."

I'm not sure what the best course of action is in this situation. Should I:

1. Contact the buyer and explain the situation, asking them to schedule a redelivery or pick up the item at the Post Office?
2. Provide specific instructions on how they can schedule a redelivery?

3. Other

Has anyone else experienced a similar issue? What steps did you take to resolve it? Any advice on how to communicate effectively with the buyer and ensure they receive their item would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you in advance for your help!

Best regards,
Arunalus

Do #1...  It's the buyer's duty, not yours. You will have done all you can by notifying the buyer. That's good service.

Hi, yes.

Contact the buyer immediately.

Let them know the situation and they MUST contact their local post office tomorrow (Monday) to arrange pickup/delivery.  Let them know if item gets returned, it will be their responsibility to cover all shipping costs (you will deduct from refund). They will need to pay shipping if re-delivery is needed.

Tell them you want them to receive the item they ordered and avoid any delays and additional charges.

In your message to buyer, it's helpful to include:

  • Shipper and Tracking #
  • Screenshot of Tracking info (especially the "full" message)
  • Phone number to their local Post Office

It is the Buyer's responsibility to provide a shipping address that is safe and deliverable.

Usually, Buyer will get it worked out. Good luck!

0. Nothing

eBay considers attempted delivery the same as Delivered.  If your buyer is somehow not already aware of their own mail issue @movespeed and starts an item not received refund request, the case will close without a refund and feedback will be automatically blocked or removed.

Buyer needs to pick it up. You did your job shipping it.

Buyer is usually given 2 notices and a chance to pick up item at post office.

Sounds like the buyer doesn't want it....could be a refuse.

If item is returned to you it will state on package what is going on.

I think a refuse doesn't get a refund...but there's. always that feedback problem afterwards to deal with.

Let it ride!

The item will be returned to you if the buyer does nothing to pick-up or reschedule delivery.

The main challenge was determining who should fill out the redelivery form – the seller or the buyer. With your help, I've understood that the buyer need take this step.

I've now informed the buyer about the situation, providing them with detailed instructions on how to schedule a redelivery or pick up the item from the Post Office. I hope this resolves the issue smoothly.

Thank you again for your assistance!

@yo0339:

Doing nothing is not good customer service, and increases the risk of a negative feedback. Don't you think it's better to avoid the hassle of a case being opened up in the first place?

The only time to do nothing else is after the seller has already given the buyer a common sense heads up. It only takes a minute or so of the seller's time to do so, and the buyer may even thank you for bringing it to their attention. Then the seller can wash their hands of it and let the return process happen if the buyer doesn't act on getting it re-delivered, or picking it up at the PO, or allowing the automatic return.

There's nothing wrong with going the extra step and gently nudging the buyer, who may not even be aware that it is his action that is needed by the Post Office, not the seller's.
