Hey, you out there in the Land of Successful Selling! I need to get things listed and hopefully start selling again. I've obviously been in a slump for some time, only recently even coming back to the boards (missed y'all too much!), let alone even thinking about actually actively selling again.
I lost my job in December (yeah, my employer of 6.5 years decided they no longer wanted to avail themselves of my services). December was kinda crazy anyway, so I didn't want to list stuff then (out of town traveling, etc). Now, it looks like we'll be moving about 2 hours east of here as soon as we can find a place to buy there and get out of our lease here. Hubby has finally been given a 2 year contract, and money, for once, is not as tight as it has been for the past 2 years. (YAY!!)
Still... I have literally DOZENS of boxes still packed with the stuff I need to let go of. Do I want to start unpacking those to start listing the contents, only to have to repack and move what doesn't sell right away? It would be super to have less to move, but the prospect of creating all that disorganization, mess, and chaos when I should be striving for consolidation, organization, and order seems counterproductive and counterintuitive, and quite frankly, is overwhelming and paralyzing.
Added to all of this hot mess is that when I go to my eBay Summary page, it shows me all the stuff I still "need." (Royal Albert tea items soothe my soul and restore my spirit, so yes, I NEED them!!)
So, start listing or wait until after moving? What do y'all advise?
Any advice, wisdom and verbal kicks to my procrastinating, couch-adhered, and rapidly spreading derrière would be much appreciated!

I would wait until I were settled in the new spot. If everything is already packed and boxed, it makes no sense to unpack it, repack it, then unpack it again when I got to the new place.
I know. We have moved 8 times in the past 20 years, and each time, we just move boxes from our first move that never got unpacked. Consequently, we've had to rent storage units. We still have stuff in storage in Oxford, Mississippi, and we've been in Winter Haven, Florida for over a year now.
I literally have not opened the box containing my wedding china since it was packed up in 1996. Thought about selling it, definitely SHOULD sell it, but it's my WEDDING china, and it's so PRETTY!!
😄
I obviously have some possible hoarding tendencies.
I decide to list stuff. Gotta make it nice for the photos. Clean everything, polish the silver, wipe the crystal down with amonia for a nice sparkle. Then I realize how nice it is and I decide I need to keep that.......
Wedding china is tough. If it's from the 90s it hasn't yet reached vintage cool and is likely just considered dated.
Yep. 1989. And not high on anyone's collectibles list, as it was just a mid to lower range pattern, Rothschild by Noritake. It was old fashioned even then, although popular during that particular era, as Victoria Magazine had gained a passionately loyal reader base, and Shabby Chic wasn't too far behind in becoming a favorite with interior decorators.
I fell in love with Lenox's Charleston pattern and really, really, really wanted it, but chose the Noritake Rothschild instead, as the colors were similar, and because I actually wanted something affordable on my registry instead of a pattern that was too pricey for my guests. (Just realized how mercenary that sounds, but back then, wedding registries were kind of a big thing. So, yeah. I own it. I wanted STUFF!) We ended up with place settings for 10, plus some serving pieces, and may have actually used it once, maybe twice.
And, @jason_incognito, I so hear you on the dilemma of "now it's so pretty I just want to keep it!" Since I never love, Love, LOVED the Rothschild, I did open the box a few years back thinking I might list it, but then upon seeing it again, I fell in love with it!
*SIGH* It's ridiculous. I don't use fine china. Even my holiday dinnerware is just everyday china. Fine china doesn't fit our living or entertaining style. There's absolutely NO point in keeping it. No kids to pass it down to, even if they would want it (hypothetical ingrates!). Takes up space. Have since replaced it with Royal Albert's Old Country Roses (also still boxed and never used). Why can't I just let go of it? Arrgghhhhh!!

They have changed it a few times, this time to coincide with the week off most people get for New Years. I think they are going back to 13 Jan.
USA and the crown is the end of Dec.

Your motivation and my motivation should be that this is your own thing. You can't make someone look at your resume and call you for an interview. You can't make them hire you and keep you. Here you have countless choices on categories, prices, pictures, descriptions, time spent each week, etc. The sky is the limit.
If it were me I would not do anything here until after moving. I would get rid of bulkier items in a firesale through Facebook or Craig.

Well, durn, @ozarkjoe! That explains why no one's banging on my door with a brand spankin' new 6 figure salary, benefits and profit sharing inclusive job offer. I KNEW something was up with that..

Unfortunately, a lot of the stress I'm experiencing is due to my own making... Holding on to stuff I intend to list "someday" which has just gotten moved from house to house to house... What you're saying makes sense, but I think I've probably got a couple of months, so am probably going to list some of the stuff I'd otherwise have to pack and leave the packed stuff until after the move.
Good luck then Belle. I wish for speedy sales to clear much before you move.....well at least some...right?
