Hey, you out there in the Land of Successful Selling! I need to get things listed and hopefully start selling again. I've obviously been in a slump for some time, only recently even coming back to the boards (missed y'all too much!), let alone even thinking about actually actively selling again.
I lost my job in December (yeah, my employer of 6.5 years decided they no longer wanted to avail themselves of my services). December was kinda crazy anyway, so I didn't want to list stuff then (out of town traveling, etc). Now, it looks like we'll be moving about 2 hours east of here as soon as we can find a place to buy there and get out of our lease here. Hubby has finally been given a 2 year contract, and money, for once, is not as tight as it has been for the past 2 years. (YAY!!)
Still... I have literally DOZENS of boxes still packed with the stuff I need to let go of. Do I want to start unpacking those to start listing the contents, only to have to repack and move what doesn't sell right away? It would be super to have less to move, but the prospect of creating all that disorganization, mess, and chaos when I should be striving for consolidation, organization, and order seems counterproductive and counterintuitive, and quite frankly, is overwhelming and paralyzing.
Added to all of this hot mess is that when I go to my eBay Summary page, it shows me all the stuff I still "need." (Royal Albert tea items soothe my soul and restore my spirit, so yes, I NEED them!!)
So, start listing or wait until after moving? What do y'all advise?
Any advice, wisdom and verbal kicks to my procrastinating, couch-adhered, and rapidly spreading derrière would be much appreciated!

I know. Right?!?! What is UP with that, @geo2061? And when we first got married it was worse: real tree (love the smell, not the headache), stringing lights... Then having to take all that down, dispose of the tree and the ornaments too ruined by tree sap to save, storing the lights... (Oh, and do you remember the tinsel icicles? Never could get all those off, and my Daddy made us save them to reuse year after year when I was growing up!)
Every time I get weary having to fluff the fake tree, I remember that whole ordeal and say a prayer of thanks for pre-lit artificial trees!

@ersatz_sobriquet wrote:List the bulkier the better. I remember before you were listing your size 2's.....if you have heavy bulky items that are going to help over-fill that semi truck, I'd list those!
One of my moves the semi was full, the cars were full, I was tying furniture to the roof of my car and gave up....left an easy $5,000 in stuff in the garage. I'm sure the new owners had fun with the freebie garage sale.
Well, I have 5 wardrobe boxes, 2 vintage suitcases and 5 58-Qt capacity plastic bins full of NWT / NIB clothing, shoes and boots, and designer handbags. Pretty bulky.
The rest of the stuff I need to list is Blenko
Pyrex, Elegant and EAPG glassware, teapots, teacups, china, transferware, flatware, books, craft supplies and storage, and -- Oh! cookie jars. Can't forget the cookie jars! Nothing like furniture, or things which by themselves constitute a lot of bulk

@thallidguy, loving the low hanging fruit idea and listing like items. Since I basically have to start from scratch, 3 templates, and I'm off to a good start!

Glass is heavy, a lot of Pyrex, Blenko, and Cookie jars are going to be 4-5 lbs, or even 6 lbs. easy boxed...not to forget to mention a pain to box up to move it and then unbox it to sell it and box it up again!
That's what I would sell. The clothing will survive the movers just fine.

You have to pack.
Then move.
Then unpack.
and the change of addy.
Then try to find the thing that sold,
in a box you can't find.
I worked for a bit as "3 Men and a truck movers"
People go crazy when moving.
Take a time out to get in the new place.
Moving is high stress.
But remember to dance.
Okay, yeah maybe you're right... Where DID I pack that prom outfit?! Leaving my dance card open for you, @sockmonkeydave!

This will give you super gopnik powers. Best of luck. Also, reach out to comrade Grady Judd for inspiration. He has not slept since 1978
Yeah, I'll have to download that Russian Anthem thing again. For some reason, it's not showing up in my playlist! 😮

I would wait until I were settled in the new spot. If everything is already packed and boxed, it makes no sense to unpack it, repack it, then unpack it again when I got to the new place.
I know. We have moved 8 times in the past 20 years, and each time, we just move boxes from our first move that never got unpacked. Consequently, we've had to rent storage units. We still have stuff in storage in Oxford, Mississippi, and we've been in Winter Haven, Florida for over a year now.
I literally have not opened the box containing my wedding china since it was packed up in 1996. Thought about selling it, definitely SHOULD sell it, but it's my WEDDING china, and it's so PRETTY!!
😄
I obviously have some possible hoarding tendencies.
I decide to list stuff. Gotta make it nice for the photos. Clean everything, polish the silver, wipe the crystal down with amonia for a nice sparkle. Then I realize how nice it is and I decide I need to keep that.......
Wedding china is tough. If it's from the 90s it hasn't yet reached vintage cool and is likely just considered dated.

I know. But that's the stuff that never got UNpacked!! 😮 Best to leave it as is, cuz it's not like it's gonna go out of style. It already is. Don't want to keep clothing for 30 more years so I can list it as Vintage on eBay. Plus I'll be 90.

Is there a market for boxes?
Sorry, I do understand what you mean.
have you had to make a run to office depot for a box before? $3 for a 12 x 12 x 12 box! $12 for a cubic foot of starch peanuts.

Or a month... 😮

Darn error messages! Sorry for double posting. Kept getting that pesky one saying to change the highlighted errors and try posting again. Me no likey.

I forgot, sorry. We have it the 7th Jan, they are about to change it again.
They have changed it a few times, this time to coincide with the week off most people get for New Years. I think they are going back to 13 Jan.
USA and the crown is the end of Dec.
