Have you tried the About Store Video? I just uploaded one.

I put together a short video for my About Store Page.....it's not really about my store, it's just a musical slideshow with photos of some of the Santa stuff I have for sale....and I screwed up the intro, it was supposed to have some text at the beginning, and instead it's just black space. But, for my first time trying something like this, without a clue as to what I was doing, I think it turned out OK.

What do you guys think?

Has anyone else done a store video?

And, no, I don't think buyers are flocking to the Store's About page, but as time goes on that will hopefully change.  And doing this sort of thing is a nice break from the regular ebay routine.

You really tracked the music in that just right!   I liked it.  It didn't occur to me that I could do a slide show, duhhh...all I could think of was a live-action video and I've got no facilities for that.

@chapeau-noir  Thanks!  There's a lot more to learn , but I enjoy learning new things, and sales have been painfully slow, so might as well as have some fun.

Know what you mean - right I'm learning to use a manual lever style espresso machine since this is slow time lol.  I might try making some videos now, though.

Yes! Give it a go---and having an espresso handy isn't a bad idea when learning new things LOL

I used canva for the slideshow (free account version), downloaded the royalty free music clip from the Web, and used the free Open Shot Video Editor to add in the music. But of course there are a lot of other options out there...you probably know more about it than I do....

@my-cottage-books-and-antiques  Actually, that's super helpful.  My knowledge is more on the line of search engines, SEO and the like - I'm really rusty when it comes to slide shows and music clips because it's been a while since I've done one, and I am certain the tools have changed.

Glad I could help. The upload to ebay took only a few minutes. You are then told to go ahead and publish it, and it will post after it has been approved. They caution that it can take up to 48 hours---or more---to approve the video, but this took just a few minutes at most, I'm guessing because it was easy for the bots to review it, and because they probably aren't being overwhelmed with submissions.

I like what you did. The only comment would be that since is all Christmas items then it has a limited life. So you would have to do it over and over as time passes. Not a negative, merely an observation.

So I am open to suggestions:

I have a movie camera that will let me upload the vids to my computer. I have a program on my PC that will edit the vids. Adding or deleting scenes, merging one or more together, add text and sound, etc.

SO

With that in mind I am sitting here trying to think WHAT the video should be.

Since they would obviously take a bit of time and effort I am just wondering what kind of a one time video would seem appropriate.

Any suggestions. Anyone?

I used to data mine for an impact video company (favourite job) and really enjoyed watching the videos they had created for various clients - basically an impact video is one that not only introduces a company and the work that this particular company does, but it does for the field, community, profession, trade or whatever.  So making a short impact video for one's store might involve an introduction that shows what one sells (genre) with a cohesive subtext.  I recall one of the boards I had on Pinterest (before the site had an implosion that ate a lot of the boards) featured traditional clothing with embellishment and embroidery - I had carried some incredible Kashmiri, middle eastern, South American and various work from the Orient which I just posted on one particular board with a bit of content (everything was for sale) describing origin.  If I still had that board, I could string a lot of those photos together with subtitles and appropriate music, because it's the essence of what I like to sell.  Of course, these days it's getting harder and harder to source anything good around here, so it might be moot.  😣

@downunder-61 Thanks. I think the name of the audio clip is actually something like Christmas Jazz....

@richard1rst Yes, the slideshow has a limited life. I just wanted to experiment a little. Eventually, I plan to make a regular "store introduction" video, which will run most of the time. But it is very easy to swap out videos, so I can imagine replacing it for short periods with other videos (Holiday, Seasonal, whatever)...especially once I get the hang of making a variety of videos and can do it efficiently.

Before you do anything, make sure you understand the rules. I think as long as you are within the rules, you actually have pretty wide latitude as to what to put in your video, but basically the main video is an introductory video about you and/or your business. ebay recommends no more than a minute in length. (Remember, ebay hosts these, and ebay must approve them before they go live)

There are some rules. First off: "Your video should be in .MP4 or .MOV format, less than 150MB, and comply with eBay’s Images, videos and text policy. "

By the way, my first thought when I saw the one minute limitation was "That's really short", but then I realized a couple things:

1. Typical radio spots run 15 sec, 30 sec and 60 sec.

2. Short attention spans on the Internet are the norm.

For background: Each of the images in my slideshow appear for 5 seconds. There are ten images. The video actually runs about a minute, it was supposed to include a little Merry Christmas text introduction, but I screwed up. (That's why there's just black space at the beginning...but like I've said, this was more an experiment)

To comply with the ebay rules about copyright, I used royalty free music.

@richard1rst

Here's an About Store video (runs 1:17 sec)....I suspect ebay actually had a hand in producing this one:
