Hello, Wondering what action Ebay takes against buyers who use hate speech. I have a customer who is constantly contacting me and calling me a "California q*eer". Does ebay allow this? That would be crazy. I have filed reports on him and I'm hoping ebay takes this seriously and bans him. I'm sure, I'm not the first to encounter this with him. I have tried to stop contact, but he keeps going.

The official policy:
Threats, offensive language and hate speech are not allowed on eBay.
Language that is hateful, obscene, offensive, profane, racist, sexual, defamatory, violent or discriminating, including on the grounds of race, ethnicity, color, religion, disability, national origin, sex, gender and gender identity or sexual orientation, cannot be used in profiles, user IDs, chat rooms, discussion boards, member communication, eBay Claims, eBay Stores, feedback, listings, product pages, collections, and any other areas of the site
Whether you get them to enforce that or take action is another story, but no, it is officially not allowed and you can report them for that.

You can end this immediately by putting him on your blocked-bidder list:

Unfortunately, blocked buyers can still contact sellers on an existing transaction.

Have you blocked him?
Other that reporting him and/or his messages, I'm not sure there is anything you could do.
eBay generally does not explain the actions they take against users. I doubt they would tell you if they banned him or took action against him.

I did block him. Messages are still going through. I actually think I would find out if he was banned because all feedbacks are removed the banned person left.

Only through situations like an INR case. eBay made a change a while back and customers can no longer contact sellers who have blocked them, period. It does not alert the customer to this, so they think they're being ignored, but the messages never appear to the seller. This has been tested not that long ago by some of the members here, though I don't have time to find the thread right now.

Is this the negative fb with the buyer complaining that he didnt receive his item and you refusing to refund because he didnt pay $5.50 for tracking? If so, had he opened an inr case you would have refunded, or Ebay would have refunded for you. You also seem to do some name calling of your own in your responses.

If you respond in any way to the Message, the bigot can keep sending more Messages.
Delete (or Archive), report, ignore.
And make sure that your Block on them includes Blocking Messages. This is an option not a given.

I did offer to have him file a claim, so Ebay can be on notice of his conversations and so there would be a paper trail if he is scamming people. That is when the homophobic slurs started. Btw..nice that you make excuses for homophobes.

He certainly doesnt say that in his fb, and you tell him its his fault for not paying $5.50 for tracking for a $3 card. You seem well versed in your own name calling responses. Homophobe, or not.

There is a pattern you are obviously not privy to that shows homophobic slurs then the feedback. I had offered him tracking at a higher cost than the stated 1.00 I charge. He declined. Fact, not blame. You are not helpful to the original question (s) I asked, so I will overlook your responses/opinions, as they do nothing to provide information I seek .

I would say you and your buyer are pretty much even with the name calling and snarky responses.

Thank you to those with helpful replies. I've chosen the best answer. It's very informative and I think others will benefit from it. I'm going to trust that Ebay will handle this and do the right thing. He seems to have recovered from his hate rant and has not contacted me again. If you are being treated like this by someone, please contact Ebay, as no one has the right to discriminate (falsely against me, I might add). This should be a safe place that only focuses on business. Not a hate station.

Nope, no more!
