I always got a message to ether approve a return or at least they let me know if a return was opened. That way I could try and help my customer before the added hassle of sending it back. But now I can't find any of those emails. Nothing at all. The last one was like a month ago.
I just have a customer open a return and already shipped it but eBay never notified me either by message or email. Nothing......
Was this a policy change and why was it changed? It wasn't broken before.

there should be an update in your orders page!
what do you see when you go to your orders page?

I'm sorry, part of what you said has me confused. "I just have a customer open a return and already shipped it but eBay never notified me either by message or email." Why would a buyer open a return on an order BEFORE you even shipped it? That doesn't make sense, they have no item to return. Simply go and accept the ridiculous return and issue the buyer the return label. Then WAIT. Say nothing, just WAIT.
Ebay does send emails. IDK what happened to the one they sent you on this if the buyer actually opened a Request for return. You should check your trash folder and your spam folder.
Speaking for myself. My email provider drops my emails into my Outlook program. I just prefer it that way. Maybe about once a year I have to go directly to my internet email account to figure out why my email isn't coming through. Sometimes there is a temporary disconnect for one reason or another.

When you on either your Active listings page or your Sold items page, in the upper right corner of both pages is a link to "messages". If there any new ones there will be a number representing how many. Get in the habit of checking that daily. You will find them there. Proactive self defense.

I am only receiving notifications (under the bell shaped icon on the upper right of my screen and on my phone) that a customer has requested a return. No emails or actual messages in my inbox anymore. I have my settings to automatically approve all returns requests and I used to get a message that a return was requested followed by a message that the return has been approved.
The last time I got an actual message/email about a return request or approval, was March 1st. I have a few returns that have been requested this past week and had to pull up the return to verify a shipping label had even been sent to the customer. I am getting the email that the buyer has shipped the item back, however. You aren't the only one experiencing this.

Let me correct myself. I mis-spoke in my first paragraph. Please disregard it. Sorry about that.

"He already shipped" And no nothing at all, not in the trash, spam or any other folder and no place in my eBay messages.
I only noticed because it was marked in the returns section of the Seller Hub. Thats the part that gets me is it was always in my messages that a return was either requested or approved and even the old ones are now gone. And like I said the one from yesterday is no place to be found.

Ive been here over 20 years and I do check all the time. Thats what gets me is that message is "just gone" nothing but the Sellers Hub link that a return is open. Might be an eBay glitch.

Yeah, same for me but this time nothing at all. And where the hell did, they move the setting to Auto Approve the returns. I can't find it either.

Not sure why you didn't see it in Seller Hub, could be the 'automated' thing.
'Automated' means 'always a mess and never works right'.
The fix in the future; change your returns to 'require an RMA, then returns are NEVER automatically 'approved'. You have to 'give an RMA' (which can be anything, but at least you will ALWAYS see it in 'seller hub' as a 'thing you need to do'- right below 'orders ready to ship'.

Then I would recommend you contact Ebay and report this as an issue with your account. Ask them if there is a repair ticket open for this issue. If there is, get the ticket number so you can more easily call at a later date to find out the status of the repair.
The only thing you can do then is pay close attention to your Seller Hub daily for any new additions to your cases filed.
On each Ebay page there is a link to contact Customer Service at the top of the page and again at the bottom of the page.
I would suggest that you contact Ebay for Business on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter for the better trained CSRs.
Here are your options for contacting Ebay Customer Service. Please be aware that for social media CS, you send them a Private Message and briefly explain what your problem or issue is. Feel free to leave your Name, address, phone number and/or your email address in this message. It is private and secure and it may help to speed up the response for you.
https://twitter.com/askebay
https://www.facebook.com/ebay
https://www.instagram.com/ebayforsellers/
Your options will be on the left. If you use the link below you can only get to the Automated Assistant or Chat box type AGENT in the box and hit enter. You will then get more options. Not all options are available 24/7. It will depend on staffing available. So sometimes you can request a call back and sometimes you can't. Sometimes you have the Chat option available and other times it won't me. If it is important to you to use one of those options, just try back later.
If you use a cell phone or other mobile device, you may need to turn off your Spam filter so that Ebay can call you.
If you are a seller outside of the US or Canada, you will need to use the Chat Option.
