They used to be one of my best ways to find inventory to sell.
All of them this year has been either a total waste of time (all they had was baby clothes and junk) or it's been people who think they can ask eBay prices for their stuff when eBay has millions of buyers vs maybe 50 people who show to a yard sale.

I usually have one annually, but not this year. I saw a few advertised during the summer, but no where near what we normally see around here. The risk just isn't worth it.

All of the yard sales I've been to in the last...what...10 years have been exactly as you describe. I don't bother anymore. I don't need to sift through unsalable 'collectibles' rubbish or used mall clothing for half of new price.
ETA: Here yard sales are kind of a thing of the past, anyway - they do exist here and there, but mostly people put the good stuff online and just set the junk out on the side of the road - someone always takes it.

I've been nowhere except the backyard since Feb 26th. Hubs has gone to the store twice, and the dog groomers once. No yard sales for us.

We did that with a big cat climber thingy...put it out by the road with a free sign. It was gone in a couple of days. I have a jillion books that need new homes but I'm not sure what/how to just give them away. A table maybe with bags to put them in? A Covid Free sign? Free Books Take Some? Or just sigh and put them in the burn barrel...
These are just run of the mill suspense type things...nothing worth more than a quarter each, though as a collecter and ex book dealer it smacks of blasphemy to even consider burning them...but I need the space.

Nope, and my husband usually goes to them ALL as he loves buying tools.
Haven't seen many signs for them this year and we never did our community based one either.

We are rural so yard sales for us usually have tools , chickens, the odd goat or two...stuff from barns.
Always avoid the sales with old clothes and baby toys...i usually just chill in the car and read my book club book while my husband scores a cheap ladder or something equally boring....yawn

I just go to our flea market since they opened it back up and usually find something every week. Some weeks are better than others, once in a while I only spend a couple bucks.
We are allowed yard sales but I'm too lazy to drive around to them. I do like to go to auctions but something came up the last couple I thought I would go to. Another one with our local guy was just too far away, like four hours drive. He'll go anywhere in the state for an auction.

I stopped going to garage sales when they started to be overcome by carp, beanie babies, kids toys, stuff that needs to go to the landfill.....blah blah blah.
I saw the same thing others....an item with a printout of an eBay listing to try to show people what an item sells for....on eBay. I'm sorry sir....this is a garage sale, not eBay. If you want eBay prices, put your item on eBay. And by the way, your printout show what someone listed their item for. Not what it sold for. Duh.
Good luck.
I walk away disappointed having to pass on a vintage Tiffany poster. Dang.

The last yard sale I went to was my own. It was held when my oldest son was a baby, so it's been about 35 years.

We started going to outside g sales in Aug.......they started in June.......with masks, tho probably 70% weren't/aren't wearing them. Still found quite a bit of stuff at good prices, tho the majority was stuff we didn't want......always amazes me how much can be found in a rural area..... but there are several auction places around and it "looks" like alot of the perennial g salers buy box lots and then try to resell the contents and some have no idea of what they have (or have made their money and are just "dumping" the rest)......... I don't have the patience or nerves for auctions.....

No garage sales in my community but then again, they really don't know how to put a decent one in play and never did. Since I was unable to go to my summer home in Northern Michigan this year I missed that big stretch of I-30 sales. Now last year I went to a ton of them up to my cabin, auctions, flea markets and great garage sales. Those people up in the North know how to put a SALE on!! Now that the weather here ( Nevada) is cooling down to the low 90s, people here might attempt to put 4 things on a table for sale instead of the usual 2!

Our town has a city-wide yard sale every summer and did so this year.
It seemed like there were fewer sellers, but I did score some nice things. Currently baby-sitting a great granddaughter. Spent a total of $96, crib, stroller, bassinet, high chair and wagon, with $60 of that being the crib.
