It's pretty rare to have such an upset buyer that the end up cussing you out. I have quite the honor today to have been cussed out by TWO different buyers. So I figure it must be a holiday.
Buyer 1: Messages me saying someone most likely stole their package from their doorstep. Later that day they file an INR because I didn't reply yet. I told them the usual steps on how to locate package (GPS, family, neighbors, etc). The guy comes back with a "thanks for your ____ bad communication, you ____." along with a negative feedback that already got removed.
Buyer 2: Guy files a return for item. Almost a week later they accuse me of something and say something like "how come ebay is still telling me to send it when I CLEARLY already sent it on _____." Assuming they used their own label I say I'll double check with my warehouse and mail carrier... asking them to describe package and give tracking. They replied with a description and say "Look man, if you already have the item and don't want to give me a refund just say it. It's fine, I just won't buy anymore from you." I reply I can't issue refunds without having the item back, and tracking info can help me bring it up to USPS. He replies with a "_____ this, keep the money then, ______!"
Oh this holiday...

Betcha the 2nd one never returned the item.

I certainly agree that there is no reason anyone needs to resort to this.
Your problem #1 however seems the issue wouldn't have happened if you had not of missed responding to their initial email. Still doesn't excuse verbal abuse of course.
Your problem #2 sounds like a bully to me. It is highly likely they never shipped the item back in the first place and is trying to bully you into just refunding them. As soon as 5 full business days pass, I'd be getting that return request closed ASAP so my FB is protected.

Well, aren't they special little snowflakes. I wonder if they're old enough to play out in the yard by themselves?

There are some people you just can't help/please.
I had one the other night who apparently believes that abusing and cussing out the front desk agent will make a parking spot magically appear.

They somehow feel entitled to pass their problem along to you to deal with & solve.

@bigdeals.etc I would give those Buyers about a 3 on a scale of 1 to 10 on creatively stringing colorful expletives together ... they didn't do a very good job.

It's hard for dullards to do well - they don't have much brain matter to work with.

Well...maybe spewing at you kept them from smacking their kid or kicking the dog (again)

lol, like the 1st one never received their item, and the 2nd one actually returned theirs, the world knows better. At least ebay is now proactively removing negative feedback from crooked buyers like this.
Its too bad some people have nothing better to do with their lives than try and rip off sellers on ebay for a t-shirt or a hat, and then act like a 12 year old when they can't get what they wanted for free. Anyone who's that poor they have to throw a tantrum over a $10 order probably shouldn't be shopping online.

As a good example of what you stated, I had a buyer back in 2015 who always had an excuse for why she should get a partial refund, saying a mug was chipped, there was a scratch on something, etc. She did this with every order.
I tolerated it though because she spent thousands of dollars with me. I just knew what to expect every time she placed an order. The final straw was when she stated she didn't open a package until months later and demanded a full refund on like a $50 order. At that point I told her I am done.
If she was broke she wouldn't have been spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on ebay. So there is some definite truth to what you stated. But I still think the majority of whining buyers are just broke.
I've changed my response to such buyers too. I don't care how much they spend, if they're trying to defraud me then I don't want their business and its time to block them. When people start the partial refund begging game now, my response is always to return the item.
And you're right, its absolutely laughable when the scammers get caught. They often slip up in their messages, contradicting themselves by changing their stories.
