Are these complete sets, with boxes and instructions?  Or, are you thinking of selling by the pound?

if by the pound, the best way might be to see how much you can get into a small box and have it fit within a first-class one pound limit.

Search eBay for “Lego pound” and you’ll get a good idea of how the Lego pieces are organized (if not just random pieces), as well as pricing.  Check to see if there are sets sold without instructions.

I’d think that no instructions would be a deal breaker for most, but Lego does put a lot of instruction books online, through their app.

If you have any sought-after complete sets, definitely look into keeping as a set.  There are some really valuable Lego items.  Most Lego Architecture sets are in demand, as are the mammoth Star Wars sets.  The bigger, the better with Lego.

I’m waiting for Christmas to crack open my Lego Titanic 🙂

I sell quite a few Lego's but generally only complete sets, usually with the instruction manuals and sometimes with the box. I sell on eBay as well as several other venue's/forums. I use a combination of eBay searches and information from Bricklink to determine what the average selling price is for a set and either sell individually or bundle several sets together.

I have sold a few baseplates both in lots and individually and again I get the average selling price from eBay research and Bricklink pricing. When it comes to loose general pieces like tiles, bricks and plates I sell most of those locally either sorted by color or as a mixed bunch of pieces and sell them by the pound. Other than a few exception pieces the cost of the postage will exceed the value of the bricks you can pack into a box. Mini-figures and accessories I sell in bundles or individually sometimes on eBay a lot of times on other forums.

There are a million ways to sell and price Lego's depending on how much time you want to put into sorting the pieces. I just sold an 11 pound lot of Bionicle parts and pieces that I shipped out in a extra small Home Depot box using UPS ground delivery.

I find Bricklink to be an excellent source for determining pricing.

You have your answer but as an FYI you will find the Lego part number stamped on most pieces somewhere, generally on the bottom of the piece although it may be difficult to find. As you are going through them a couple of things to keep in mind.

1. Color can make a HUGE difference in the value of the piece.

2. Be familiar with the Lego color pallet. There are some colors shades that have minor differences.

light gray and light bluish gray, dark gray and dark bluish gray.

3. The age of the parts/pieces does not always matter.

4. The condition of the brick(s) does not always matter.

5. When it comes to mini-figures or figure pieces such as heads, legs, torso's, hair, helmets, etc.

prices can range from a dollar up into the hundreds.

5. EBay may not be the best forum for selling common bricks by the pound. There is a lot of competition

and the average per pound price for common bricks is $5-$10.

First of all, welcome to eBay!  I also sell LEGO on eBay and have a ton of inventory that is just piling up as I figure out the best way to list these items.  In my experience, I've found that if you have completed sets (and depending on what type of sets), that's always a good way to list and sell.  It can be a bit tedious and you want to make sure your sets are complete, but it works for me.  You can also sell individual minifigures and you'd be surprised how much some sell for....I sold a Spider-man minifigure for over $80 once.  You can also just take your bulk LEGO and sell by the pound.  If you spend some time on eBay and search LEGO by sold listings, you'll get a good idea on what is selling in this category and comparable price points.  Good luck!

ALWAYS go to SOLD items and see what buyers are willing to pay. NEVER use current listings as most sellers think they can get $1,000 for their items even if they are only worth (to buyers), $10.
