HELP! Buyer Selected Local Pick Up... But is not local to me

Hi All!
Trying to figure out the best way to move forward in this situation so that my account does not become impacted (or even only slightly impacted).
I had a buyer purchase a hat from me today and the buyer selected "Local Pickup." When I contacted the buyer to set a time and location to pick up the item, he responded that he lives on the East Coast... that's an issue because I live in Wisconsin 🙂
I looked at the person's account and they have had really good feedback, so I am more inclined to believe it was an honest mistake. However, I got a little nervous as to the best way forward when they wrote back, "I would need you to either ship or cancel the order." 1) I never got an address because the buyer didn't select shipping, 2) I didn't offer free shipping on this item and it seems like the buyer assumes they will get that, and 3) If I were to be the one to cancel in this situation, would my account get dinged for a defective sale?
I am wondering what you might recommend to get the best resolution. For some context, I have done a few 'Local Pickup' sales but this is the first one that was (perhaps) "accidental." Should the buyer or seller be the one to cancel the sale? Would you immediately block the buyer or would you give them a second chance to complete the sale? Is there an important eBay policy regarding this situation that I haven't found yet that I should be aware of? I am interested to hear the thoughts of the community!

Would not "either ship or cancel the order" indicate that you would cancel, citing either "buyer requested" or "problem with buyer's address"? Neither of those reasons causes a defect to your account.

I would do what @soh.maryl suggested.
If you think it was an honest mistake I would let the buyer know
that you will re-list the item and they can buy it again, this time with shipping.

Tell the buyer that you have no choice but to cancel and relist the item with a shipping fee to their zipcode. If they paid, they will automatically be refunded once you cancel. Be ready to edit the listing at the same time. IT will let you list it free at the same time that you cancel. So be ready to edit it and remove local pickup and add a shipping fee. Let the buyer know when you have relisted (or will relist) so that they can buy it and pay for it again.

Absolutely NOT ! "reading and comprehension go hand-in-hand."
The buyer requested to either ship or CANCEL the order. So, you cancel citing buyer requested cancel.

Thank you! I chuckled when I saw your comment! 😄 I so appreciate it... I have been fortunate so far to not have any cancellations to deal with, so couple not knowing what to do with thinking there was a point of no return in the process that would mess up almost a year of solid work on eBay...
