Since about a year or so Ebay came up with the idea of showing the thumbnails of listings with a slightly grey background if the background of the image is white. That's a bad idea.
Do you see that as well, or is it just me?
Before they did this change the thumbnail would have a thin line grey frame (box) with rounded colors around the image. Now the background is grey. The issue is, Ebay is not just making the background darker, the whole image gets darker.
So a thin item with a darker brow color shows as black.
I am talking about the view when looking at the search results of items with thumbnails.
Of course when clicking on the listing, the item comes up and the gallery image shows with a white background if I have white background.
This makes the item look unattractive. So what I end up doing now is to manually increase the brightness of the main image. It's an extra work.
Anybody has the same observation?

It does make a lot of items appear "dingy" for lack of a better word.
eBay started this change 4 or more years ago when they rolled out gray backgrounds on the App. At the same time they redesigned Stores and put gray backgrounds on the storefront.
They started rolling it out in search on the website for different users and eventually rolled it out to site-wide search results over a year ago. If you do a search you can find some past discussions about it.

I make my backgrounds pure white. eBay changes them to dingy gray.
In almost every case, the item looks worse. I sell on other platforms, so I keep making white backgrounds, no matter what eBay does. It's a glaring difference how much better my items look on other sites.

Oh, Okay so it's been for ages. It looks like I have been living on a tree then. I even searched high and low about this on support forum so I thought I need eyeglasses if it's only me having the grey vision issue when looking on ebay thumbnails.
