Just received an email from ebay Main Street where they informed me that that SHOP SAFE was not signed into the law. The main idea for that law was to expose all online sellers` personal info on each listing (as it is in Europe already). With blackmailing, hacking and breaches, SHOP SAFE was a horrible idea in the first place. Nothing to do with Chinese sellers or fake items.
Here is the email:
Back in March we alerted you that Congress was poised to include the harmful SHOP SAFE Act in its economic package - the CHIPS and Science Act. As a reminder, the SHOP SAFE Act would make it harder to sell online by making sellers “guilty until proven innocent” and pitting them against the largest brands in the world.
We are happy to report that, due in part to the almost 25,000 US Main Street Members who took the time to contact their members of Congress, the SHOP SAFE Act was ultimately not included in the CHIPS and Science Act that was signed into law at the beginning of August.
While we are pleased that this bill did not make it across the finish line in this legislative package, we believe the fight against SHOP SAFE and other attempts to regulate sellers will continue. We will continue to monitor these proposals closely and keep you updated on any potential movement. In the meantime, eBay would like to thank all of our US Main Street Members who took a few minutes to participate in our campaign – your voice was heard and made a difference!
Sincerely,
The eBay Government Relations Team
