Good Till Cancelled Not Fair To The Little Guy

I don't list enough items to warrant a store. I average 130 to 150 items listed at any given time. If I list at fixed price and don't have enough promotional listings at months end I will have to pay an insertion fee on current listed items. I am going to have to switch back to auction style with a much shorter listing period. I would like to see E-Bay go back to the 30 day fixed price option.

I have already ended my premium store as of May 1 with the intention of selling auctions only. I will NOT enter into a yearly contract. I will pay a little extra a buy monthly rate and list auctions only. I will only list what I know sells. I am not doing it because I cannot see a way around GTC, I can end GTC before they relist, I just choice not to PLAY that GAME at this time. It's just not a good business plan for me. In the future I will re-evaluate. Good luck.

GTC is a bad deal. I like to evaluate my items at the end of 30 days so as to eliminate the low view items , GTC almost eliminates that unless I sit on the computer each night to find out what is close to ending . if I chose to end before it gets relisted I lose the chance of a buyer( and many do wait til the last minutes to buy ) buying it . come on EBAY give the sellers the option of GTC or 30 days.  if you keep sticking to the sellers they will leave and when all the sellers get fed up with the way Ebay treats it sellers and they leave, GUESS WHAT  EBAY is GONE.  So wake up ebay and work with the sellers instead of just thinking of yourself

I am against 'Good Till Cancelled' Policy!! I, too, am a small Ebay seller. I am only selling items that are from my Family's estate, as I can not keep everything!
I truly believe that it might be good for an Ebay Store holder but it's not the best business policy for a small Ebay seller.
You really should re think that option for Store owners only!!

Your listings renew in 30 days, not at the end of the month.

You can choose to allow them to GTC renew at their 30 day mark, or you can selectively end the ones that you do not want to renew due to lack of "free", or "promotional listings" just before they end.

I see GTC as "no problem" for a "small" seller.

I've never had a "store" and don't need or want one. GTC isn't really that much of a big deal, maybe if you're a seller with thousands of listings it would.

Towards the end of April, eBay sent me 200 free auction listings. Not a big fan of auctions myself, but at least they don't automatically relist.

GTC does involve a bit more work, just pay attention to your listings and you'll be fine. Good luck & hang in there.

What about a 'Starter Store'.  I was listing between 50 - 100 and had some angst about insertion fees.  I called the eBay helpline and they suggested the recent addition of a 'Starter' store where you can list up to 100 items per month free.  There is a $4.95 charge per month for this subscription.  I jumped on it!  I am now listing 100 items each month for a fee of $4.95.  Would that help you?

These people telling GTC is not a problem are not getting it.  It is all about Big Old Ebay taking control of your "TERMS".   They will tell you, "It is their platform" or "Go sell somewhere else".  Don't buy the **bleep**.  You as the Seller are the one who should be the only one to set terms.  30 days and done.  Period.   We want to go back to the choice of GTC or 30 days.

I have to smile when I hear "little guy" - I am a 4ft 8in midget (no I find no offense in the word as some do - and yes I know what it means in German) - so I am a real little adult of 64 years. 🙂

Besides that, I have used the GTC in it's rollover status since it's inception - even when we had to pay for it, pay for pictures and a lot of other fees too. So I have no problems with the newest GTC format rollout - used it for years. I don't do auctions - don't buy from them either.

Jut wanted to say I wish well to all of those who are having issues with it all.  Hope it gets better for you. It is the Ayden, returns, and other nonsense that get's my dander up.  So warning to all - I expect to close my store in late May. I will keep the 50, but the other 800 or so items will be posted elsewhere or disposed of - so if you want them at these great prices, strike while the iron is hot. 🙂  Unless something happens to make me stay - eBay can remove the knife and fork from my account - I'm done.

ebay does not care about the seller.  it sees this maneuver as an opening to gouge the seller when he/she does not have the time to end all the auctions after 30 days.

If you end the listing early doesn't it also affect you "Seller Level Forecast" which when it falls below standard increase the fee EB charges?

GOING, GOING, GOING, GONE, OUT OF BUSINESS AFTER BEING ON HERE 20 YEARS.

In total agreement that this change was only made to eliminate the smaller sellers.

The only response from fleabay is to spend more money with them to promote all your items, or switch to auction style listings which they don't give me any for free.

I can see the writing on the wall, or sales reports actually.

Today is 5/1 and I am tracking 55% lower sales from a month ago and 56% lower sales from a year ago the same period.

Seeing as I sell mostly the same type of items all the time, the only change is the almoighty GTC.

I am a moderate size seller, anywhere from 175-275 items, a store made sense to me, but I don't know now.

If I switch to auction style listings for 7-10 days, and list 100 items every other week, it costs me more than the store did.

Sales have always been sporadic but listing that many items, I still had packages going out daily, now the last 30 days, I am down to 1-2 items a week.

Writing is on the wall-THEY DON'T WANT YOU ANYMORE!!
