Hello All,
I am a 20 year seller on ebay and have done quite well without ebay telling me how to sell my items. I have kept great records on the cycles of selling an item listed as a Buy It Now, which is all I use. A typical item I list with a 5-7 day Buy It Now will sell 75% of the time within the first 24 hours of listing it or the last 12 hours before the listing ends. The days in between start and end of the Buy It Now account for only 25% of my sales. Most buyers search new listings or watch ones that are about to end. Everything in the middle seems to get "lost" unless it is a very unique item folks are hunting down and those are the ones I sell during the "lost" period. I have no use for 30 Day or Until Cancelled listings - to me they just do not work. I utilize my 50 free listings during each month to maximize my main items and use the Freebies for my less profitable or less desirable items.
I am going to use my 50 free listings now each month in a 5-7 day auction format with a starting bid of what I would have asked in a Buy It Now format with a HUGE tag line in the auction stating that the first bidder that places a bid will have the opportunity to purchase it at the starting bid price by sending me an email. Then I will just respond thier email with an offer at that price and that will be that.
ebay has totally lost sight on what has made this site work - it's the seller. If the sellers scale back so will their final value fees. I will never pay a listing fee as I pay hundreds of dollars in final value fees now. Big mistake ebay, this post comes to you from a very successful professional outside sales person that uses ebay as a hobby. I know what I'm talking about.

I have closed my store and am moving over to Etsy (where you can sell vintage items). I am staying at Ebay for now but will not be list more than the 50 free items.

how cool is that! Good advise. taking notes. keeping an open mind, although i'm disappointed. I agree ebay has made, some big mistake. We are ebay, the sellers. sometimes the boots get too big in high places. i dont think i do auctions correctly. I'm a seller of books. would place books at 99 cents to attract people to my place. Sold many an expensive book for a $1.00! Keeping an open mind, or trying to. thank you, respectfully, rose

Make a call and tell them directly! We need to CALL also and voice our dissatisfaction.....I am looking elsewhere to sell. Other small sellers like myself
should do the same. Ebay is out for the money! AND the BIG seller. Shame on EBay.
i was just told that Ebay surveyed sellers and the feedback was CHANGE TO GTC
I don’t believe that for a min. Nor do I believe that 75% of all sellers use GTC prior to this change.

Sellers also need to CALL Ebay .....and voice their dissatisfaction!
I am looking elsewhere to sell. Don’t have enough hours in the day to track all my items under this new mandated GTC policy . Shame on EBay!
CALL CALL CALL CALL and tell them your/our dissatisfaction!

Agree. It is obvious that they don’t care about the smaller seller like myself.
They want the $$$$$$$.
Change the store policy ...(I don’t get 250 FREE listing monthly anymore)
BUT THE PRICE REMAINS THE SAME!
CALL CALL CALL EBAY AND TELL THEM YOU ARE UNHAPPY WITH THE CHANGE

"We are only allowed to create auctions for free in specific categories "
That cold be another thread, I have always wondered why- when I pay more to have a store I am limited in the categories I can auction in and I have to pay extra to schedule when my auctions start. without a store I can list anything in auction without extra fees adn I can schedule without fees. With a store the more you pay the less you get.

"What ebay alternatives are you inclined to jump to? "
I just signed up with Bonanza and they are transferring my inventory from eBay as we speak, I am moving my collectables and handcrafted jewelry to Etsy. I have been selling on eBay with three focus sites, clothes, jewelry, and collectables. my niece sells clothes on a site that I will have to find the name of. I never thought I would leave eBay but I am gone.

I just called. and I have to say that after repeating my concern three times I gave up. The person on the other end was not able to understand what my complaint or concern was. She had no idea what I was talking about, did not know what the change was, did not know what I wanted her to do with the information I gave her. It was an act of futility, another reason to move on.

I have been here since the beginning I have taught several others and even worked in an eBay drop store while that was big and not one of the business I know would be a good fit for GTC. The GTC is bad all the way around eBay is FORCING us to list items we do not want to sale at the time and they are FORCING us to pay more in fees while doing so. eBay should not be able to MAKE ME list anything I do not want to. Some people may like GTC but it does not work for me. I sale a lot of seasonal and if I do not have room I do not need to re-list 100 Santas in July. I have more then 1 store and thousands of items in inventory. This is a change that in the long run will just cost people more time and some to cancel eBay all together. Sellers can still get around the fees most of us are smart enough to do so but the end result is you have less time for listing and pictures and purchasing inventory so you make less money and eventually it will no longer be worth the effort. The perfect solution let sellers make their own choices, you have all walks of life selling on eBay some people make their income solely off of eBay while others just sell here and there but isn't that what eBay is all about isn't that what makes it special? Wake up eBay Sellers are buyers and buyers become sellers get new customers not make the ones you have mad enough to walk away. Also a quick note on auctions, you can now enter the offer tab and buyers can send you an offer just like buy it now listings.

Auctions do not do as well as buy it now in a lot of cases and if you add a buy it now you would still paying more in fees.
