Good Riddens Ebay!

Anonymous
Not applicable

After some very long thought, we have decided to stop selling on ebay after 17 years of doing so.  The managed payment system is a hassle, and they have at times withheld payments longer than usual due to an "unknown problem".   When we call customer service?  They say they do not know what the problem is, only that there is one.  We do not ship until payment goes through, and this greatly has held up some shipments and resulted in buyer's being unhappy.  Secondly, we always use tracking and signature confirmation.  But if that buyer lies and says the package was not gotten?  In the last year Ebay has let 2 buyers get away with this.  Each time they sided with the buyer, though we showed proof that the package was in fact delivered.  The first time it cost us $2000.00 .  This last time it cost us over $4000.00.  Ebay sided with both buyers and refunded them both, directly debiting our bank account.  The tracking and signature confirmation *should* protect seller's.  But we have learned over the years that ebay ALWAYS sides with the buyer.  And as of lately their selling policies have been completely unsupportive of seller's and the managed payments have also become a head ache.  Tired of losing money!  Good riddens ebay!

Re: Good Riddens Ebay!

If you lost 2 INR (item not received) cases, you did something wrong. I guess that's a moot point if you're leaving.

Good luck to you in the future and stay safe.

Realize you are leaving, but this concept is the single most area of angst I have ever seen.

Sellers seem to think they are "never" going to see the monies.  It baffles me that if e-Bay says "to ship", Sellers are unwilling to do so.   If I deposit a check on Friday afternoon to my account at Chase - they "might" allow it in my "available" balance, but typically, those funds are "credited" to my checking on Tuesday, at the earliest.  This is really no different.  Like some huge nefarious scheme by e-bay to keep all monies due a Seller??

I am really sorry you had buyer issues.  If we had a situation where we were out $2k, I would not have worked to be in a situation to jeopardize $4k more.  This site is not conducive for some types of items.

Best wishes.  Online selling is not for everyone or everything.

Re: Good Riddens Ebay!

Well my knee-jerk reaction is to ask, what are you doing selling items of that value on eBay?? You have certainly been here long enough to realize what a loose cannon eBay has become. Selling a $4,000 item on eBay is dancing on the minefield.... Even a $2,000 item. And yes, I can certainly commiserate with you for being disgruntled over suffering losses of that caliber.

I believe it is “misspelled” not “mispelled”.

Re: Good Riddens Ebay!

While I am not speaking for the OP, I think rather than the managed payments being an issue, the biggest issue is the total lack of customer service if something goes wrong.

We have seen it, money being held, problem with signing up, glitches, aware of the problem trying to fix etc etc.  It is not so much the fact you are scared you won't eventually get the money - but more like who in the heck are you meant to talk to about it when it happens.

I was just on the Aussie boards and someone there had $5600.00 tied up because eBay could not verify their account - it took 9 weeks in total and was finally fixed with the seller not having to do anything else - so an eBay error in the first place.

eBay has made it near on impossible for people to get 'solid, correct' advice, and this is off putting in a corporation of this size especially when your money is involved.

With the profits they crow about, you would think they might reinvest some of those millions in decent customer service training - surely someone at eBay knows how it all works?

The clutter side of this is going to drive me into another line of work before MP, GTC, GTFO or anything else will.  It's driving me nuts.

Re: Good Riddens Ebay!

Very sorry to hear about the huge amounts you were cheated out of. I don't care how rich someone is, that money is going to HURT anyone to lose it to a thief... it really does sicken me every time I read one of these cases no matter the dollar amount but the higher the amount the more nauseated I become. 😞

That being said, and not to beat a dead horse or insult you, if I was ever cheated out of X amount of money from a thief I don't think I'd list an item again for that amount or higher... just not worth it. 😞

It's true that things can sell for a great price and there's a lot of profit to be had on ebay but if the thieves find you they can set your profits into the negatives and just a few setbacks like that is enough to sink anybody.

But as someone else on here said, some things really should not be sold on this venue. If I had expensive things like you (no idea what they are but..) I would start my own website or see about selling locally even if it meant less money.

Anyway all that aside, my main point is that I am sorry you were cheated so badly. But I hope you find a better situation for yourself elsewhere and may the good karma gods repay you in 10-fold for these rotten, thieving, criminal  %$@^&%ers who wronged you.

Re: Good Riddens Ebay!

The PayPal payment process is ending, so today I am being forced to link my bank account, for unfettered eBay access, for not only deposits, but also unfettered access for withdrawals. In addition, eBay wants me to log into my bank account through a third party app "PayWithMyBank".

What could go wrong? Does eBay think they are immune to being hacked.? There are numerous ways (screen scraping, hacked API's) that this third party 'PayWithMyBank" could expose my login and password.

#1 My Wells Fargo banker told me to never let anyone have open access for withdrawals on my bank account . This is the same as an open ACH allowing access to my account.

#2 Giving a third party my bank account login credentials?? Once again against Wells Fargo policy!

* I'm trying to figure out if it's better to stay on the eBay selling platform, because I'll soon have less completion with everyone canceling their eBay account - or should I just go ahead and cancel my account. (20 year seller)...

Wells Fargo. The biggest crooked bank in the US giving dumb advice on security? EBay does not get unfettered access. Never heard of such a thing.
