GoDaddy retiring online bookkeeping

Just got the following email from GoDaddy.  Of course, that is the service I use.  I hate change.

Online Bookkeeping will retire in 30 days.

After much consideration, we've made the decision to discontinue Online Bookkeeping on June 18, 2022. At that time, the Online Bookkeeping tool will stop importing transactions from your connected channels and your existing data will be archived. To provide you with the best possible experience going forward, we've partnered with Intuit to offer you a special discount on QuickBooks Online.

You have until September 30 to download your Online Bookkeeping content. You can either move your data to QuickBooks using our migration tool or export your .csv file and import it to another accounting platform. You'll receive a prorated return for any time remaining on your term.

We appreciate your business and are here to help make your transition as smooth as possible.

Anyone have experience with QuickBooks, good or bad?

GoDaddy retiring online bookkeeping

Thank you so much for that info. I called Quickbooks today to see what is up with this investigation I have going on with others on why the ebay app will not integrate. I had another, this is two now so spent at least a half hour trying to manipulate with them guiding me through their app, I synched and resynched and resynched this ebay app over and over and over and STILL IT WILL NOT IMPORT ANYTHING. The investigation will take at least another two weeks they said. All the while I am thinking i either put the wrong synch date into the system , and it will not start until that date, or ebay is not authorizing the transfer. When I go to authorize it it gives me a greyed out nonfunctional button to approve the app. I have to do it another way where it goes to my seller hub first, then goes back to quickbooks app, then it connects. I get a message each time you are connected. BUT IT IS NOT TRANSFERRING ANYTHING. This rep from Quickbooks cannot fix this at all until I here back from their tech team. She said call ebay again and get to a higher up who can at least answer my question as to whether this app went through as approved. Nobody from ebay had been able to tell me that for sure which I find completely idiotic.

Just curious if you were able to make any connections between Wave and Zappier.  I like Wave.  It's the closest to GoDaddy for looks and tracking supplies and cost of goods bought and meals, etc.. for  business expensive.  I like the eBay reports they put out for the small about that I have.  I can take that information and use the totals each month and put them into my own form.  Millage I'll have to do by hand, but I had to input that on Go Daddy.  Nice that my business is only in one checking account and Wave is free.

Would like to figure out how to get the right Zappier connection, but for now I'm sticking with Wave, eBay and google to keep my records.

What has been the consensus so far on which program is best to move on to for bookkeeping? I have started looking into QB, My Reseller Genie, and Xero. I so wish that someone would just buy this from GoDaddy and release it even without the API connections for use.

Try 10 Minutes Accounts.  It more or less works.  Not as good as GoDaddy but might get you by.

Thanks for the idea. I’m exploring Wave and just using totals from eBay reports (Sales, fees, shipping, etc) as I was already manually adding some data to GoDaddy. Cost of goods, mileage, supplies, etc. Haven’t tried Zappier yet.

This method adds some time to my monthly bookkeeping, but won’t be that bad. Download and save detailed reports to Google if ever needed.

Hate to lose GoDaddy 😞 Also explored GNUCash as it’s all local vs ‘cloud’ app.

I have zapier working.  It imports my eBay sales into wave accounting.  If you sell less that 100 items a month zapier is free and so is wave. If you sell more you would need to upgrade zapier.  Still much less cost that QuickBooks.  The issue is you will have to manually add eBay fees and shipping from prior to when you get zapier to start importing.  Wave imports all the transactions from my bank and credit card.  I had to manually categorize the transactions prior to this week. Once you set it up it learns to categorize the expenses automatically.  I think it will work fine going forward.

Thank you for reporting back on Zapier! I was confused as to how they measure usage by "zaps" and "tasks." I didn't feel like messing around with Zapier and Wave to see how it would work out in real-world terms, so I moved on.

There are a lot of small sellers who sell under a hundred items a month on eBay. Sounds like a good option.

After much deliberation, I went with an eBay Seller Spreadsheet purchased from Paper + Spark yesterday. So far, so good. It's easy to import eBay CSV files directly into the spreadsheet, and the data is populated into all the columns automatically.

The only challenging part is figuring out whether the monthly CSV from eBay includes literally every charge and credit. The Paper + Spark user manual says that the monthly eBay invoice *may* have a few charges and credits that are not on the CSV, so you have to hunt very carefully to figure out whether a manual addition of data is needed.

I used GoDaddy for so long that I never learned how to wade through all the charges and fees on the CSV or the invoice, but I suppose I can figure it all out with practice. Paper + Spark also has a lot of resources for people to get up to speed, like Youtube tutorial videos and even a Facebook group.  The sheer number of Youtube tutorials was what sold me on the program.

I tried to do the connection and because I have two ebay accounts a selling account and a buying account it picked up the wrong account and I have not gone back yet to find out how to make it recognize the selling account. It picked up the buying account only. What a nightmare this is trying to find something that will work.

So paper and spark has an app that downloads the data?

No, Paper + Spark is an assortment of spreadsheets you can choose from to meet your business needs. There is one spreadsheet that is made specifically for eBay, so that's the one you'd select if all, or most of, your online sales income is from eBay.  There are other spreadsheets you can purchase optionally. Those are called "import add-ons."

Paper + Spark doesn't have any apps that automatically import data for you. Even the things that are called "import add-ons" aren't really apps, just extra spreadsheets that calculate numbers that would then get merged into the data on your main spreadsheet. But don't let that discourage you. I have found the spreadsheet system to be pretty easy to work with.

The spreadsheets can be opened on your computer in Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, or Apple Numbers. Once you pay for the spreadsheet(s) you want, you would either enter the data into them manually or copy and paste data from a CSV file. Using the CSV that eBay makes available to you every month, you would just copy and paste that information directly into the eBay spreadsheet, and boom, 99% of all the eBay data you need would be automatically entered with no need for additions. The only thing you might need to enter by hand is the few bits of data that might appear on your monthly invoice but not on your CSV.

The eBay spreadsheet has multiple tabs, one for each month of the calendar year for your eBay-specific data, plus a few additional tabs for other expenses you may incur during the year, such as office supplies. When you fill those tabs out, that data gets automatically imported into the main monthly tabs as business expenses.

If you have a bank or credit card account that you want to pull data from, there is no separate spreadsheet for that, but you could make monthly QFX files (which I think can be viewed as Excel or CSV files) and then copy and paste those into one of the expense tabs of your Paper + Spark spreadsheet if you want.

This webpage will give you a written overview of the eBay spreadsheet. Toward the bottom, there's a very helpful video tutorial that gives you a quick look at what the spreadsheet looks like and how it works.

@m60driver

Companies go out of business all the time for a variety of reasons  e.g.  Sears (once the top retailer in the US in B & M and mail order catalog sales), Studebaker ( just an ugly car that no one wanted, except for the limited production of the Avanti, General Motors was replaced by Toyota as the number 1 auto producer in the world.

20% of new businesses fail during the first two years of being open, 45% during the first five years, and 65% during the first 10 years. Only 25% of new businesses make it to 15 years or more.

A monopoly is a dominant position of an industry or a sector by one company, to the point of excluding all other viable competitors.  Your cable  service for your  immediate area might  be considered a mini monopoly - but so are other utilities.

Monopolies are illegal in the US and have been since  the Sherman Anit-Trust act of 1890..

We  went ahead an did the migration to Quickbooks. have the time so far it does not even import ebay fees. Most confusing. I guess we will just shut down till we can figure this out. We are not CPA's. Good luck if you can understand the platform
