Re: Giving false Specification details

You mean just make up something?

It would be better to omit something than to make up something I would think.

The easier you are to offend the easier you are to control.

Why would you do that?

The more true information you can give about your item, the better the chance will be of making a sale.

Have a great day.

Re: Giving false Specification details

You should not make up false information intentionally or with careless guesses just to fill a field. Since it is part of your item description, false information gives your buyer a valid reason to request a return for refund. Even if you sell items with No Returns, if the item does not meet the description, you can be held liable for refund of the cost of the item plus any shipping cost paid by buyer, and for the return shipping cost if you want the item back.

But, if you sell much and know much about your items, you also know that ebay already supplies lots of false information in their item descriptions, misinformation that could cause you to have to honor a return request for Not as described.

If by "will it be a problem" you mean that buyers who relied on your false details may file disputes and want refunds and cost you money, then I would say yes.

If by "will it be a problem" you mean will it hurt other sellers when you lie and degrade the image of the site in the eyes of buyers, then I would say yes.

Yes, it will be a HUGE problem. Never put any false information in your listings. Buyers can file disputes and you can lose your item and payment.

Re: Giving false Specification details

If eBay wants "Item specifics", they should do the research for every product and auto-fill them. I sell lots of older stuff where item specifics are hard to come by. It is just going to be a nightmare. It irritates me to no end that eBay assumes that these item specifics are readily available.

Whenever I do not know something, I leave it blank. Now we are going to get returns from buyers who will claim the item specifics were wrong as I soon expect many will be.

Ebay is just making it harder and harder for people to remain here. It is always something. No rest for the weary.

Re: Giving false Specification details

I have to give false information to conform with the new item specifics.

Like most Ebay enhancements this latest "item specifics" is poorly implemented and tested by a poorly managed team that knows little about software development. It is obvious that this was developed by people who have no experience selling on Ebay.

For example I sell a titanium screw that is used for attaching water bottle cages on racing bikes. It is a screw, not a water bottle, but I am forced to specify the size of the water bottle to please the robots. What they should have done is add a "does not apply" selection. Give the sellers enough credit to know it is a screw, not a water bottle even if they can't figure it out.

They made the same mistake when they came out with the sweeping UPC requirements and finally had to add the DNA selection. It is very hard to explain why a company who has had millions of transactions has so little understanding of what sellers are listing. The obvious fact that not every product has a UPC number simply eluded them. They botch these things every single time and that is one of the reasons so many people wanted nothing to do with Managed Payments.

Exactly !

The entire search system has been messed up by this corrupted "item specifics", also caused promoted listing not performing well..  We sellers are victims of this entire mess, expecting a huge plunge on our sales ... it started couple of days ago.

sigh! dumb people need to eat too .....
