Hello.
I had a return delivered today and I was wondering if I just refund the item price or the entire thing including the original shipping (it cost me about twice as much to ship as I charged for the shipping).
I know "return for full refund" appears self explanatory, but I also know that people have restocking fee's and other such things and "return for full refund" is not a "full refund" but a full refund minus shipping / RS fee's.

It depends on the circumstances.
Most of the time I refund the full amount the customer paid because I have very very few returns.
I'm waiting for a package right now, a guy bought an item and wants to trade it in for a different model.
He's paying to ship it back to me and I'm paying to ship his replacement.
It's costing me about $10 extra dollars then it should've ($100 item)

It was an odd return for me, since they claimed that my item was not as described, when the fitment description came from a certified dealer catalog, but they didn't do a SNAD they did a normal return and paid for the shipping.
It's also the first return I've ever actually accepted, while normally I would refuse a normal return, this was an item that had a lot of traffic, and so now that I've received it and verified it's not been tampered with or replaced, I'm trying to figure out how I should go about the refund.
I can't do it till next week, I actually get off work in about 10 minutes so any more responses I won't see till Monday, but I and just wondering if I should just go ahead and do a full refund including shipping or chop off the $5 I charged for shipping.

It depen on situation.
if buyer claim that item is not as describe they still can fight for full refund weather they taking advantage of ebay policy to save money or it is truth .
Like you said this item is highly demanding means can be resold quick and easy so i would suggest to issue ful refund instead of getting negative for $5 which will stick to your feedback board for next 1 year.
It is seller choice to draft the store policy and follow on that .
If item is not as decribe or wrong item or damage - defected received by buyer I always issue full refund but if buyer not interested now or doesnt like and willing for refund in that case buyer paying return shipping and refund issued deducting restocking fee .
Thanks

As a show of good faith, I would refund the whole thing unless you would lose a substantial amount of money doing so. They shipped it back on their dime so reciprocating wouldn't be a bad idea if you feel like the transaction went well otherwise and think they would buy from you again. You'll lose a little on the front end. But you can make it up on the back end.

@bigmotormania It sounds like their official return reason was buyers remorse (ebay makes the buyer choose a reason from a list of reasons as you know). If they paid return shipping they chose a remorse reason so you can refund the item price only. If the FVF was more than the shipping cost or they were just about the same amount, I would refund in full and take the FVF credit. But the choice is yours.

As others have said, if it was returned via eBay's SNAD return system, then no, you can't deduct anything. If it was returned via eBay's Buyer's Remorse return system, then you are bound by your return policy (i.e.if you don't list a restocking fee, you can't deduct a restocking fee). If it was returned just out of the blue (i.e. the buyer just sent it to yo with no case open), it really depends if it was returned with tracking or not more then anything else. No tracking = No problem for you in the future. I'm not suggesting that, it just happens to be a fact.

It was through the remorse system, which normally I refuse returns (as is my policy) and because of that I don't have any return policies setup. It was mainly due to the price of the item that I just accepted the return for refund, so I think I will just do the full refund and eat the $10 in shipping since I can make that up by listing it again and selling it again.
It was not tampered with or even installed, so it's still in the same condition that it was before I sold it, though the buyer said that I incorrectly listed the fitment information, but according to the manufacturer it was the correct listing information so I'm under the impression their unit had customized modifications or something.
Either way, I'll just return in full and hope I can make it up.
