When we go to advanced search we enter the item number of an unpaid item and the result is
We'd like to get the buyers contact information which used to be available in advanced search so we would have the buyer's phone number in cases where they have not responded to messages after several days.
How to get buyers contact information? Thanks.
I remember a situation some years ago when the buyer was absent for well over a week and from contact information we were able to get their address and sent them a letter in the mail and there were very understandable reasons why they had not responded. The letter to them got the item paid for and shipped

The amount of time allowed before "opening a dispute" has not expired.
Ebay suposedly sent them a reminder on day 2 and I sent a thank for your bid....on day3.
So it hasn't even been 4 days since the listing ended?
I looked at your sold items and it was sold on August 22.
Why are you so impatient?

It's somewhat hard to understand why a seller wouldn't activate the only good tool he has for a nonpaying bidder.
You know, @soh.maryl... you just blew my mind. My settings were at 'Automatically cancel unpaid items' and I had the '4 days' ticked, but now I don't know if they'd be cancelled like I'd like to see it done... with a UI strike imposed.
I'm changing mine back to 7 days, so that I can cancel citing 'Buyer didn't pay' on my own after 96 hours. Thanks! 😉
The buyer DOES get a strike with an automatic 4-day cancellation.
The following is a picture of the message I received on an unpaid item:
Note that ebay should update the notation on the message because a FVF isn't assessed until buyers pay so there's no FVF credit to be issued.

Impatient? I'll send them a message maybe the 28th. I sent them one on the 23rd thanking them for their bid. I'll wait until around the 30th or 31st to file unpiad buyer which creates a dialog since I can send a message along with the newly opened dispute. I want to sell this item to this buyer if at all possible. It is a hard to sell item and I have no problem allowing the buyer some time.

It doesn't work that way any more.
You can no longer open a dispute. When you file for a cancellation for non-payment, the order cancels/ends and buyer gets an NPB strike. There's no communication between buyer and seller.
And do NOT keep sending invoices. Each invoice you send extends the amount of time the buyer will have to make payment.
If it's this stressful to you to wait 4 days for payment, there's an easy solution! Stop doing auction listings and list FP/BIN with IPR. List the item at the price you're happy with and with IPR, it's not sold until payment has been made.

Filing an unpaid item case does not open a dialog nor give the buyer a chance to pay. A couple of years ago, eBay streamlined the unpaid item process: Now ""Buyer hans't paid" is on the list of reasons for canceling a transaction and it's just one step. It's not a warning, like the old two-step system of filing a claim.
Here is the Help page about what to do if a buyer doesn't pay:

The buyer DOES get a strike with an automatic 4-day cancellation.
Thank you for sharing from experience! I am changing my setting back to 4 days and resting easy! 😁

That doesn't exactly say it'll be cancelled as non-pay, now does it? That's why it blew my mind...
Like so many of eBay's Help pages, that page about nonpayment is poorly organized and badly written. But after all, the whole page is about dealing with unpaid items.
Another clue lies on the site preferences page for buyer requirements, which offers: "Block buyers who caused x cancellations of unpaid purchases within x month(s)." IMHO the automatic cancellation would be included in the concept of "caused cancellations of unpaid purchases."
I tend to agree with you. Let's see if kyle@ebay thinks an automatic cancellation automatically creates a UI strike...
Hi @mtgraves7984. We're happy to clear up some confusion here. Our automatic cancellation does result in a UPI strike on the buyers account. We can see how it's not clear so we'll be sure to pass this along.
