GTC Question

Just coming back to eBay and wondering if it was a good idea.  One question: Now that GTC is automatic, do the buyers also see that the item has no expiration date.  Wondering if this will put buyers into the "watching" mode and then never come back to buy.

Re: GTC Question

No, it looks like a 30 day listing to buyers.

Re: GTC Question

But sellers are also buyers and you aren't going to fool the regular buyers here. It's all over the net that all BINs are GTC - the only ones it may fool is new buyers.

I don't know that anyone is trying to "fool" anyone.  Ebay isn't pretending to have listing types they don't have.  GTC aren't new, they have been on the site for years.  I absolutely get and respect that for some sellers this is an enormous issue.

Like with any other change that affects buyers, it may take a little time for them to get use to it, but they will get use to it just as they have on other sites.  The problem isn't really the buyers, it is for sellers to find their way of dealing with the change that best benefits them.  Some will be able to do that and some unfortunately will not.  Is is a serious issue.  And if you need anything from me to help you, I'm here for you.  I'll answer any questions you may have.

Re: GTC Question

I am ending my listings on my 2 seller accounts early. Start your ads late in the evening. Try to start in big groups so that you don't go crazy every night ending ads. I have also added a comment to the bottom of the fixed price ads telling buyers that I am ending ALL Buy It Now ads a few hours early before they end and if they like the item , to not wait until the last few hours. I know that I am losing some sales but since I sell cheap items, it's better that way than to get a big invoice. **bleep** YOU EBAY!

Putting such a disclaimer on your listings have been discussed on other threads.  It really isn't a good idea.  You are trying to bring your buyers into the middle of a disagreement you are having with Ebay.  Not really a good thing to do.  I do respect that you don't like the GTC listings.  I understand they do not work well for you.  I take no issue with that as you are in very good company.  But it doesn't belong stated on your listings.

No one is trying to fool anyone?  Not really sure how you came to that conclusion?

  • Buyers (people who are here to actually buy something) largely want to shop, find and purchase.
  • The percentage of potential buyers who are shopping and waiting and hoping or whatever else are not large numbers.
  • Buyers know they do not have to wait for an auction to end to accomplish this task.

Good Luck Selling!

That would depend on what you are selling and how much profit you want to make. eBay is making "big changes" and you will need to jump through ALL the hoops if you want to be successful here.

Good luck to ALL the small sellers out there!
