They should change their name to feebay they advertise 10-15 percent but charge 30-40 percent! 20 years here selling and I just can't do it anymore but I have accrued sooo many customers here.  It's ashamed that I have to retreat from the site because they are gauging anyone else having the same thoughts

NO.  There is NO category on Ebay that has a 30-40% fee UNLESS the seller had chosen to pay a high Promoted Listing fee rate.  And if that is the case, that is on the seller, they decided to do that.

Ebay selling fees are EXACTLY as stated in the policy.

With that said some sellers add in their cost of shipping as part of an Ebay fee and that is not the correct way to calculate that.

I'm only being charged 13.25%

I expect you are finding this because of the fees on postage. Because of the fee on postage the fee on the item in effect becomes infinitely variable.

This why most low priced items have become unviable, as the fees can easily reach 100% and beyond when the postage fee is added.

This is something you have to take into account when selling low priced or heavy items.

Can you show us an example of a transaction of yours where your final value fee was 30 to 40 percent?

Are you keeping in mind that eBay's FVF is charged on the item price, the shipping fee and the state sales tax, if any?

I agree with Hawaii-- eBay must not like you if you are being charged such high final value fees.  It's amazing that you have stayed here this long under those circumstances.

     While it is true that the actual fee percentage eBay charges is a bit more than what is shown in the fee schedule because they apply the fees to the total cost of the transaction (item price + shipping + sales tax + $.30) it is no where near 30-40%. I took one of you items and plugged the numbers into a cost model I have and I get the following. The actual shipping is based on Pirate Ship discounted rate for ground advantage from your location in Arizona to my location in Virginia. Not sure if the stone falls into the jewelry category or one of the others so used 13.25% for the fee percentage.

Everyone's fees are different depending on what you sell. Lightweight items come out to around 16% but heavier items which my average is around 23%. Actually not too bad for the exposure. Don't be fooled by those trying to talk you into thinking it is only 13.25%. What Ebay SHOULD have done is when they started charging on everything was to lower the cost from the advertised fee of 13.25% to at least 10%. The fees would have only averaged around 18% if they would have done it that way. Greed took over.

eBay charges exactly what they advertise.

But they advertise a percentage of the entire transaction amount, including shipping and taxes.

So the fees could actually be 100% or more of the selling price, if the seller does not bother to check.

Not trying to argue with you here, because I know you are experienced, but why would the weight make a difference in the percentage of FVF? 

As I understand it, and have not sold for a long time, but the current FVF is calculated on the item price, the shipping fee and the state sales tax, if applicable.  

Have noticed that some sellers who claim the percentage is higher are adding in other things to come up with the FVF.

     And that makes little difference if the seller is recovering those fees from the buyer either through baking those fees into the price when they offer free shipping or recovering it through the difference between what the buyer pays for retail shipping and what the seller actually pays for the shipping label. In simplistic form a $100 item offering free shipping, which 75% of sellers utilize,  sold to a buyer in a state with a 8% sales tax rate works out to the following from an eBay fee perspective. 

     Are there other selling costs, sure there are but it has nothing to do with the eBay fee calculation.

No, you are completely wrong. I've never paid more than 15% in fee's and my average is just over 13%. I know what your doing though, your counting the shipping cost as a "fee" when in reality it's not. Stop spreading false information by switching numbers around to make it sound like it's something when it's not.

Work on your arithmetic.
