I understand why ebay thinks free returns for any reason will improve sales but I don't understand why they think it's reasonable to penalize hard working, top rated sellers that choose not to follow this strategy by completely eliminating their final value fee discount.
Here's a crazy idea: If ebay believes this will increase sales, how about shearing the financial rewards with top rated sellers who follow this strategy by giving them a greater discount? After all, Top Rated Sellers are the ones paying for that "free" return shipping.
The way I see it, ebay is trying to increase THEIR profits at the expense of one of their most valuable assets. Top Rated Seller. I think that's a very dumb strategy.

I agree.

You are being penalized? I am not sure why you are thinking this way?
It appears eBay has a different definition of top rated seller than you do? eBay feels a top rated seller provided the very best in return guarantees and shipping times. I guess you feel top rated means something less than eBay's definition?
If you do not meet the requirements then you do not reap the benefit. It is as simple as that.

They are not trying to increase their profits at seller's expense. They are succeeding at it.
So remind me again which partner in this relationship is "dumb"?

I believe they are referencing the fact that jumping through all the hoops only gets you a 10% discount on FVFs vs the 20% we previously had. There are days I think I'm stupid selling here period - but that's another issue.

You don't appear to get it. Ebay is offering the very best in return guarantees AT YOUR EXPENSE and eliminating your discount if you don't comply. Does that sound like a new "benefit" to you? Sounds like a scam to me.

eBay does not set my return guarantee and shipping times. I do that myself and I do it because I can compete more successfully against others sellers who do not operate in these manners.
Any discount from eBay because I meet there standards of top rated plus is a reward not a penalty.

What benefits? At one time Top Rated Sellers had benefits.
Ebay over time has continually whittled away at the benefits that are now ALL GONE! Being TRS does not mean anything anymore. If you do not sell how ebay wants you to sell, you are stripped of your badge and benefits. It is what it is.
I believe our badges and benefits that we worked hard for and strived to maintain with excellent service should have NEVER been taken away because we do not give 30 day FREE returns! Giving 30 day FREE returns should be an option for a seller not demanded because you will lose all benefits if you don't do what Ebay wants you to do! What an insult to the Top Rated Sellers!

So you have outlined that TRS+ has little to no value and then you are saying eBay is taking this away from you.
Evaluation of the very best eBay sellers will always change due to current online marketplace changes, seller and buyer reactions and habits . Right now same day shipping and free returns are very important to buyers.

How are you being "rewarded" by ebay when they change the standards and ask you to pay for free shipping or lose your discount? I'm all for having a positive attitude but you if think this is a reward or a new benefit, you have a skewed sense of reality.
If ebay thinks free returns for any reason will be great for sales, why don't they offer to pay for the return labels? Surely the increase in sales will more than cover that expense. Right? Or at least REWARD sellers who CHOOSE to follow this strategy with a bigger discount.
Did you know the top seller discount used to be 20%? Ebay loves to "reward" their top sellers. lol!

Are you an Ebay employee? Because you talk like you are or were a Top Rated Seller at one time. I looked at your Profile and see you have no items for sale or have never sold anything on Ebay. Do you sell under another Profile name?
Sellers that have been through the changes only truly know what is going on.
Maybe you just are looking to shake up the conversation.

It is pretty simple. I do not use same day shipping and free returns because eBay gives me a discount. I do it because buyers like it and creates more confidence in buyers impulse buying habits. Anything else eBay gives us is a benefit.
eBay has raised the required level to be called a top rated plus seller. Either you meet the qualifications or not?

Do what eBay wants, keep a low return rate and they give you a 10% discount.
Don't do it, get high returns and get charged a 50% penalty......

If eBay was the one paying out of pocket for all these returns, they would have figured out a solution and fixed the problem.
