We rarely get returns. Out of 1600+ sales a year we get maybe 1 or 2. So we’ll probably opt into free returns but we have very little experience with these so there are some questions.
What if someone buys multiple items, which we shipped together, and they only want to return one? I assume the return is generated automatically based on the postage costs we incurred sending the item out. The shipping cost back to us for, say, 1 out of 3 items, should be less than what we spent.
We sell used items (mostly books). We do well with our condition descriptions but these descriptions are very subjective. What might be minor to us can be major to others. We can sometimes adjust the price when the buyer has a legitimate complaint and we’ll rebate them (taking into account shipping costs back to us, for example). We probably avoid half our returns this way. Will buyers opt for the easy free return without contacting us and allowing us to work with them so that everyone is pleased with the deal?
What if an item just isn’t worth having it shipped back? Say we make $10 on an item but the shipping costs are $20.
What of international sales? Do they get free returns too? How would that work if shipping is through the GSP? Are we going to pay for shipping to GSP and then again back to us?
Thanks for your replies!
