Free Local Pickup

A buyer paid for 3 items of about 300 pounds each and chose Free Local Pickup. He told the seller

that a UPS truck will come to take delivery. The truck took the items with only the Ebay shipping

label attached to one. UPS invoiced the seller for $3600, and after the seller explained how and why

the customer was responsible engaged a collection agency against the seller.

What would resolve this situation?

Who paid for the "eBay shipping label"?

Why did two of the packages not have labels?

What would resolve this situation?

I am assuming the buyer bamboozled the seller and doesn't intend to pay UPS.  Unfortunately, the only recourse the seller has is to sue the buyer for breaching the contract.   I am also assuming the seller signed the UPS form upon pickup that says the sender is responsible for fees if the recipient doesn't pay.

The eBay shipping label was printed by the seller. The buyer had ordered a UPS pickup, then called the seller and said to release the items to UPS. The UPS driver loaded the items without asking for anything from the seller, placed a Freight Number sticker on all three items, wrote the total weight and date on a copy of the shipping label, and gave a fourth Freight Number sticker to the seller who mailed them to the buyer for proof of shipping.

The seller did not sign or see any UPS form upon pickup, except for accepting a small Freight Number sticker.

The seller was remiss in not understanding how UPS freight works and not finding out who the shipment was to be billed to.

The UPS Freight Bill presented 2 weeks later to the seller shows "NONE" for B/L NO., and "PME" (normally meaning a Procurement Match Error) for P.O. NO.
