Fradulent shipping address given ?

I sold some clothing and the buyer paid immediately, but in Paypal's shipping information it had PLEASE SHIP TO:  (name, address, etc.)

So I did, and tracking shows the item arrived just fine.

A month later, the buyer has opened a case saying her account was hacked and someone else put that shipping address.   She is asking for a refund.

Shouldn't she take that up with ebay/paypal??

I just got off the phone with ebay.  She said since the case was just opened today, to wait the 3 business days and see what happens (?) and it was up to me if I wanted to refund.  And she said to tell the buyer to call them to report the fraud on her account.

What are you talking about? It's eBay case so why would OP call PayPal? PayPal can't close the eBay case and there is no PayPal case to close so what case is PayPal going to close on their end?

-If you would read then you would know what I am talking about.  I am talking about the funds they would have held in paypal also. Ebay does affect the paypal acct too.  OP can call paypal and let them know also. The lady is claiming someone hacked her paypal acct to change a shipping address in case you did not read that part. Ebay cannot see much info on paypal's end. Cases take much longer. That is just reality. Call Paypal and let them know what happen. Do not refund.

I wouldn't tell the buyer anything. No contact. I would call again tomorrow. I would not give the details. Just, buyer opened case, tracking shows delivered, please close.

Calling paypal will get you nowhere with an ebay case.

What type of case did they open?  If it's an Item Not Received (INR) then all you need to do is add the tracking number to the case and call in.  If this is INR the CS agent was wrong.  Call again.

If it's not an INR what type is it?  Can't be SNAD (Not as Described) and eBay does not (to my knowledge) have an Unauthorized transaction case type, only Paypal.

So if they openned a SNAD case, again, call CS and point out this is not a SNAD and have them close in your favor.

I may be wrong, and if so hopefully someone will correct me, but it's my understanding that you must ship to the confirmed paypal address in order to qualify for seller protection with them.  If you shipped to an address that the buyer put in the "notes" of their payment, that's not covered by paypal.  Again, I could be wrong, but I always decline to ship to any address that is not on file and confirmed with the paypal account that the buyer used.

Are you saying the address you shipped it to was the address on the transaction, or was another shipping address added in a note to the seller?

If I am not mistaken the address that was provided was the PayPal shipping address. this would be the same as the eBay shipping address. The case was opened on eBay. If the tracking shows delivered it is an open and shut case. Provide tracking and close in the sellers favor.

Sometimes it is best to call and get it closed. eBay has been known to side with the buyer for unknown reasons. The other information, hacked account etc, is irrelevant. Tracking provided, close case.

If the buyer wishes to keep pursuing it further on PayPal or CC chargeback that is a new situation.

Fradulent shipping address given ?

Question.... this caught my attention... PayPal never says "Please Ship to"...

Are you saying that the SHIP TO address (the confirmed address) on the PayPal pymt WAS the address that you shipped the pkg to OR was the shady address given to you in PayPal notes along with the pymt?

Just wondering...

It IS confusing, lol.  And I am wondering how this will turn out.   I will call again.  I did send the buyer a note saying I called ebay, and since my account was ok, they needed to speak to her directly so she needed to call them and tell them her account was compromised.

Buyer opened an "item not received" case....    requesting a refund.   Edited to add:  I DO have tracking that shows it was delivered.

I shipped it to the PAYPAL "shipping information" address that is in the "You've got Cash" email.

This one:

The OP said:

The ship to address was different, but it was in the Shipping Information and said "ship to - (address) which was different -  as if it were a gift.   I printed the USPS label through Paypal, so the 'ship to" address is the address that was printed on the label!

Meaning that it was the address selected when the payment was made.

And 'confirmed' isn't needed. It just needs to say OK to Ship and Eligible for Seller Protection(such that it is).

I read alright. You just don't know what you are talking about. Calling paypal will not help with an ebay case and paypal won't release the funds. A case has been opened with EBAY. Ebay cases take LESS time to resolve a paypal case.

Was it shipped to the address provided to eBay on the order? This address would transfer to PayPal and may not match the buyers personal address, it may have defaulted to the last address she shipped to with eBay. This is the address eBay will decide in the sellers favor. If it was shipped to a different address then provided to eBay seller will lose.
