For several weeks Ebay constantly crashes while trying to do listings. Unsaved info is lost.

For several weeks Ebay constantly crashes while trying to do listings. Unsaved info is lost after reset of a couple up to several minutes.  I have bee reporting this for several months.   Info is not in drafts when reset is done.  VPN may make worse, but is not the issue, as much of the time my VPN is disabled.  All I get is the boy with the orange jacket pulled over his head and an Ebay apology.  So tired of this.  I must have lost 40 hours of listings over the past 3 months. I con'tantly have to go back and enter lost info again.  Very, very frustrated.  This should not happen on a site like Ebay that we pay premium fees and charges to.  Once again, this should not happen to one of the largest selling platforms in the world.

You may want to take a look at your device...is it updated?

Is your browser updated? If not you may want to look into purchasing a new one. Try a different browser.
I have heard nothing about eBay crashing from other members, it certainly hasn't crashed for me.

How slow is your internet connection?

One of the effects of using a VPN is your connection to Ebay is slower. If there is a performance issue without a VPN it will get worse with one.

If your ISP is CenturyLink that could be your problem.

VPN may make worse, but is not the issue, as much of the time my VPN is disabled.

The vast majority of users experiencing this problem seem to also be using VPNs. There may be other contributing factors, but it seems like VPN use is connected to this issue.

Once you encounter this issue, simply turning off the VPN at that point may not be effective in dealing with it.

You may need to stop using your VPN altogether when using eBay, or at least consider seeing if not using the VPN at all for a week allows you to list again.

I list almost every day.

I have not encountered this problem.

Could the problem be on your end?

Your computer or browser?

@eburtonlab gave the answer most consistent with user experience with this problem. Folks have cleared cookies, changed browsers, changed devices, reinstalled this or that. Nothing works except trying to list on a cell phone or (sometimes) turning off VPN.  (See numerous posts both here and on the Technical Issues board in the last month.)

My experience today: my first "save for later" on the listing page gave the greyed-out screen and the "orange jacket" message. I refreshed on that repeatedly and it stayed put. Then I moused over and turned off VPN. The "orange jacket" boy disappeared on the first refresh and I was able to continue using the listing page successfully. No problems since.

I don't think turning off VPN for a week is any advantage. I've found (small sample) that even if I start the listing with VPN on, if I turn it off before doing "save for later" I'm OK.  And not using VPN at all for eBay is overkill, as by all accounts this problem only affects the listing page.

I can't believe that Ebay isn't aware of this problem - listing is like russian roulette - just took me 30 min to list 1 item with several bounces.

Re: For several weeks Ebay constantly crashes while trying to do listings. Unsaved info is lost.

I list using Sell Similar, and I'm getting raincoat boy all the time.  My listing are less than a minute each, and I get a failure every 2-3 listings.  The recovery time varies.  From instantly to many minutes.  As in right now, I gave up on listing and am looking at this board!

The other thing that is happening is when you do a Sell Similar, the page loads in the middle of the "Description" box, meaning you have to scroll to the top to start listing with a new photo.

I believe this started a few weeks ago when eBay updated the product, I think for Internet security.

Re: For several weeks Ebay constantly crashes while trying to do listings. Unsaved info is lost.

From what I have determined after 2 month of dealijng with this is that Ebay has changed their security for listing and it is doing a deep packet review (not all the time it seems) and not allowing VPN servers in to their listing server. I have tried EVERYTHING else. You may have to turn off your VPN and clear all cookies and history before logging on to Ebay. This eliminates all history of the different IP address. If I do this, I have no problems listing. Ebay knows what they changed but won't admit it. It is an issue with Ebay, not everyone's computer. My guess is they are doing this to stop some sort of overseas fraud but it is causing real issues. They need to inform their CS about what they did and ADMIT IT!!! STOP WASTING PEOPLES TIME EBAY!!!

Good hypothesis!   See my post right before yours where I pinpointed the timing to that last security update. So you are probably correct.

I am tired of trying to list. I'm no doubt about 33% less productive and listing a lot less.  Also, when I've tried to search as a buyer, I'm getting the same nonsense.  That means buyers are getting frustrated and going elsewhere.  Notice a lot of folks talking about a big decline in sales in this same period?
