Is there a way to increase the font size eBay sets on the screens without increasing the screen size? There appears to be a lot of dead space on the screens that could be used for larger fonts. I am 80 years old and my eyes are not as god anymore. Currently, to enlarge the font I must scroll sideways to read the entire screen information such as the listing and orders screen. I am using a 17" laptop and it still isn't big enough! THX

Your browser may have a setting to enlarge the fonts. There's no setting within eBay that I'm aware of, but it could be applied to all websites. What browser and OS do you use?

The sheer amount of dead ("white") space on some pages is a problem, especially the create/edit a listing page (if you are using the regular web page interface.) To make it worse, increasing the size of the font will result in more vertical scrolling and possibly horizontal scrolling. (Holding down ctrl + turning the mouse scroll wheel will increase the font easily, but won't fix the excessive scrolling.)
I wish eBay would take the create/edit a listing page and make the margins between items on the form smaller so much more could be displayed at once to minimize scrolling. I use a large monitor and a desktop PC so I can see as much information on screen as possible. Having to scroll so much really wastes time. Using some keyboard shortcuts using the ctrl key (ctril+end, ctrl+home, ctrl+arrow keys etc.) can make navigation faster but it isn't enough.

For fear of embarrassing myself due to my lack of computer knowledge, I wanted to say I adjust my font size as much as possible using the control and + or - keys. This may not be what you are asking about though.

Unfortunately, there's no way to shrink the dead space - increasing font increases everything including the dead space. All you can do is what you're doing now, increase the font to readability and scroll sideways. The site design here isn't brilliant.

When I use + / - on this forum the "dead space" DOES shrink, well actually it just gets pushed off the screen but it does not create horizontal scroll bars so effectively it is shrinking while the text get larger.
On the Seller Hub the dead space remains the same but the text increases, go to far and it will start to split lines of text but you need to make the text really huge for that to happen.

For me (and apparently the OP), everything shrinks or enlarges using the +/-.

Same spontaneous results as zooming by holding control key and rolling the mouse wheel forward or back. Away is bigger, toward self is smaller.
