First time seller potential problems: awaiting Payment

First time seller here, and I have a Buyer (whose first language isn't English) that claims he had to recently go out of the country for a funeral of one of his close friends, and that he won't be back in town until 2 days after the 48 hour Buyer payment window will have expired. I told him he can pay me on time and let me know when he wants me to ship it (if he is afraid he won't be back in America in time to recieve the package), but he has not directly responded to that inquiry.

The catch is that this is for an expensive GPU that will most likely be used for Crypto-mining, where prices are very volitile on the market, and I am wondering if he is just pulling my leg to maximize the amount of time he can wait to see if there is a better deal before maybe finally deciding?

I know that I can open up a case in the Resolution Center after 48 hours of not recieving payment, but if he is actually serious about buying it and not messing with me I'm waiting to wait a couple extra days (because the whole process of getting my Final Value Fees back and putting the EXACT same ad up for auction and waiting another 3 days for another potential sale, these things will take longer than waiting on this guy).

Anyway, I'm curious from you experienced Sellers if Buyers have ever done something like this to you before, or maybe there are some tell-tale signs I'm not aware of because I'm new to this that means I should probably avoid this guy and open up a case immediately after 48 hours of no payment has expired.

After you open an UID, the buyer has 96 hours to pay.

Everyone has options. Just be sure the best option is right for you.

He should pay you and then you can hold the shipment for him. Make sure that all of that is documented in messages on Ebay so that you have a record of why the shipment is not going out promptly. If he does  not pay you within the normal time frame you can open an unpaid item case with them . Ebay recommends now using immediate payment required on listing because of this problem with non payment for a variety of reasons.

If you file a UPI after 2 days, buyer will still have time to pay if his "2" days are accurate before the UPI closes........

Be aware of fake emails from either PP or Ebay that say the payment is made.........or pending.........and to to ahead and ship.  DO NOT ship without seeing the money in your paypal account......and it should not say "pending" if it is being held since you are a new seller........

it was an auction, so immediate payment can't be used, but good advice to use fixed price with immediate payment if you have to list again....  Scammers do prey on new sellers....with auctions....  but whichever you use, do heed the Payment advice....... watch those emails!

Yeah - file it now. IF you ever hear from the buyer again just tell him that he still has time to pay according to his own timeline. But if he can get to a computer right now then he could figure out a way to pay. This is not 1998 here. Dont wait for this guy. I doubt you are really going to get paid but file the UPI - do not try to make a cencellation instead.

Bad advice. It would make more sense to give the buyer more time to pay, then it would to have him pay now and risk late shipment defects or have to go through the hassle of calling CS to get them removed.

Been reading everyone's replies, thanks for the input. Didn't know about those fake emails so I'll be sure to check my Paypal balance if I do see a payment confirmed email. And yeah I agree I think it is a good idea to go ahead and file UPI once the 2 day mark hits later this afternoon.
