After about a month of no bids on any auctions...I finally took the old advice of listing at 99 cents, and got the traffic I've been hoping for..Stripped them ALL down to $1 and they have mostly all gotten a hit..I guess people just want to get stuff really, really cheap now. If you list at value price, you're just going to wait for a collector, which could be shopping somewhere else, as most are nowadays. I've had little luck in the past with 1$ listings, but this time around things are looking different. Didn't think there was any fight left in bidders..We-shall-see!
It's still out there!

I wonder if eBay could tell us the age of our buyers - make that information available somehow so we know who to market the item towards in the future?
To have the age of our buyers would be great. I don't remember from when I registered...does eBay ask for age?

I found this in a very quick Google search. I do not know if this is valid...

I had to blow up the page to see that, but over 54 is the majority of buyers. It's not only age though, it's how much they spend on items. 54 and over are all boomers...I was right.

I agree, Boomers are the majority of buyers on eBay.
For my business, I do think that there is potential for growth amongst the Millennial and Gen X age groups on eBay. I am a Boomer, many of the other sellers at the arts and crafts venues that I sell at are 20 -25 years younger than myself, as are many of the shoppers. Just my opinion here...I think that eBay has too much mass produced in China stuff that is taking center stage when there are so many wonderful items lurking behind the curtains that would be of more interest to certain age groups if they knew they were here (eBay).

Dumb luck walk into a piece of wiener werkstatte or a piece of pillin pottery for $10.00 and see how fast it moves. Most folks wouldn't know it if they saw it and the $10.00 would scare them off...

Not from the get go,... you can register a new eBay account in under 5 minutes..no age, no info....BUT, to actually make a purchase, you have to use a valid source, which can lead to an age...... They got it somewhere!!!!
Of course they do...I don't know how else they would know what the target audience is for all of the the new TV ads that they are running, just to name one thing right off of the top of my head.

vintage nothing much is going to change around here until they knock down all completed info. To many folks rock bottom prices to make a sale and to many suppliers on the other end are using highest price first to price their merchandise for resale to ebay sellers....

Theres always a trail to name, address, bank account info..... You age is all over the web. I am unaware of where eBay could get an accurate age other than maaayyyybbbe PayPal linking into your checking account......
eBay can’t get that info from PayPal linking into your checking account.

They probably know because of the Nielsen ratings things. My husband does the surveys and they know the ages of the people in your household

I was at a country auction last night being a picker I don't need a cellphone I store everything in my brain. I spotted a motorcyle helmet and figured $40.00 or less would snag it. When it came up for sale I had it bought for $35.00 and since folks know I'm a picker two ebay cellphone shoppers got in on it and I got out it at my $40.00 it ended at $185.00. I thought I must have missed so I checked when I got home... budwieser helmet fulmer ...... Not much meat left on that bone if any....

No bank will give eBay that info.
Federal financial privacy laws.
I can deposit money in my adult child's bank account, her already have given me her account number.. but they blank out her total on the reciept they give me for her new current balance ... with a black permanent marker.
Your age, which is based on your date of birth.. is very sensitive and not easily attainable by Direct means.
By Indirect means, like if you gave it on FaceBook.. well...
it'd cost eBay money to peruse FB for each member, and log their ages.
I doubt they'd find any profit in doing so.
As far as eBay's marketing.. they will target certain ads to certain ages and demographics.. not just because they feel one set is more prominent than all others.
Thanks,
Lynn

but but but then you make up for it in volume!
