Fighting with ebay to honor a FVF "Promo", + questionable buyer of expensive items

This situation has gotten so complicated, & taken so many calls to ebay, that it's exhausting. But I'll try to describe it as best I can:

From Dec. 1 to Dec. 4, ebay  had a: "Save 50% on final value fees Promo". I "activated" the offer, then listed 10 items by Dec. 4. Three items sold. I got the Promo 50% on 2 of them, but not the other one. I spent 2 hours on the phone with ebay trying to straighten it out with several diff. people, & one of them finally credited the promo 1/2 off to my account.

Then on 12/22, three $200 items (that I'd listed on 12/4) sold, all to the same buyer.  Guess what, I was charged the full FVF fees; no "promo". I called ebay on 12/24, & talked to 2 ebay employees, who both tried to argue that  the FVF promo only applied to " Good ‘Til Cancelled listings" (it clearly didn't). Finally one of them agreed that I should've gotten the promo, & said she'd get it approved from "management" that day, & gave me a reference # for the case.

Yesterday, still no refund on the FVF fees. I called again. I actually spoke to someone who actually seemed to have a brain, & I spent an hour & a half on the phone with her while she tried to give me the Promo fee credit. She said that: "b/c I had gotten one refund of the 50% FVF on one item earlier, the system wasn't letting her give me the 50% FVF credit on the last 3 items sold". And she'd have to present it to "upper management".

I truly don't need this. I've been selling on ebay for 15 years. I can't even count the $$ amount of fees I've paid to them. Or the  $$ amount I've spent buying stuff on ebay.

Meanwhile, the buyer of the three $200 items that I'm fighting about the FVF fees with ebay over, seems possibly questionable to me, for several diff. reasons. For one, I googled them & they have bad feedbacks on Zillow for scamming renters out of their security deposits. And some weird lawsuit (??).

Am I getting this wrong? Maybe I should be focusing about what to do about the selling of the 3 $200 items? I haven't shipped them yet.

Oh, BTW, I cancelled 3 of my expensive-item listings that I'd listed during the "Promo" period, once it became clear that ebay wouldn't honor the "Promo"......

Yes, unfortunately, ebay promos are like ebay credits. They look good, sound good, but you'll never actually see them. Just like their CS reps, ebay's promotional department follows the same code of ethics and commitment, which is simply said....none.

That's not my experience. I have received the 50% off fvf for all the qualified listings that sold.

I've actually never had a problem with any type of eBay promo so your statement is incorrect.

Questions: Is there anything I can do (Other than what I've done already)?

Also, ebay has my credit card on file to charge my fees to. I can't remove it w/o putting in another credit card, or my Paypal acct. I'm just forced to Eat It if ebay won't refund me for the FVF promo?

The "questionable" buyer--I think-- of the three $200 items that I'm fighting about the FVF fees with ebay over: these are expensive French silverware pieces. The buyer paid for all 3 together, so I'd need to ship all in the same package. I just have a fear that they'll claim not all the items are there (or something).

What if I just don't ship, & the buyer files a claim to get a refund? Would I get my FVF fees back then? Or?

thanks again

You're putting too much time arguing about FVFs on items not even shipped yet to a questionable buyer. That situation would be my first concern.

As far as a CS agent not being able to credit you with the FVFs for the 3 you haven't mailed yet - some systems are set up that way. In the grocery store - a cashier can only override 1 item before having to call for a front end manager if there are more purchases that rang up wrong - or you pay the bill and have to take it to customer service.

They are protecting themselves from fraud - a cashier overriding purchases prices and putting in lower prices to save a friend money.

Same problem here. I busted my butt getting 16 items listed before the Final Value fee PROMO period cut-off to take advantage of eBay's generous offer of 50% off up to 10 items. All of them sold. Now my invoice has come and there is a 50% off PROMO on only 4 of those items. It's not clear to me why only those 4 were eligible, since they were listed with the same terms under the same conditions as all my other listings.

Your experience with eBay CS does not give me any hope that it would be time well spent. Is it worth fighting for? In my case it could save me up to $100 off my invoice depending upon which of my sold items eBay picked and chose to grant the 50% discount.

I agree that this is what's happening, and that the OP is prioritizing... strangely.

The transaction isn't even complete yet — there are so many things that could happen between the purchase and the true end of the transaction, especially if the buyer is inspiring doubt... and you're worried about the FVF charge? When eBay won't even make you pay up until the end of the billing cycle, so whatever is on your account statement is just a placeholder? Weird. Forest vs. trees.
