Has anyone noticed how much more we're paying to sell on E-Bay. And the % they charge to advertise the items. At one point I saw a suggested add rate of 17.5%. What do they think we make on selling on E-Bay.

If we've sold awhile, we know how much the fees have risen. Remember that suggestions are only suggestions...

I would expect that any intelligent seller would know how much he is paying to eBay in fees.
And the % they charge to advertise the items
Since the seller puts that % on each item he promotes, I would hope he knows what number he just typed and agreed to.
At one point I saw a suggested add rate of 17.5%
If a suggestion makes no sense, then ignore it.

They have no idea what you make because they do not know all your expenses.

The fees have not gone up that much and now are at 13.25% for most categories, some lower, some higher. The concept of promoted listings is an ingenious one on eBay's part and to eBay's benefit. I have never fallen into the PL trap, and never will, but I appreciate those that are using it since it probably forestalled eBay doing an across the board base fee increase.
There is no factual data that can support whether PL increases sales. In may increase views but those mean nothing without a follow up sale and there is no way to determine whether the item would have sold organically without the use of PL. On average my eBay fee expenses are between 14-15% without the use of PL. The effective rate is because the 13.25% is applied to the entire price the buyer paid for the item to include sales tax.

@515sako ,
I assume you mean the suggested rate of promotion?
I've had this "thing" listed on ebay for a year now. So have several other sellers.
Each of us just wants it gone. It's no longer about making good money on this item. It is about making "something". Even if very little.
In order to do that on this smokin' hot "thing" that nobody wants? I'm going to do what I can to sell mine before anybody else.
I'm going to raise my promotion rate to stupid high so that mine hopefully gets seen 1st.
I'm not the only one thinking that very same thing.
SO....before lone we have increased our rate on that "thing" to where now the suggested rate is 17%.
And then you come along with the same "thing", newly listed. While we all been out here trying to do anything to get rid of ours.
That's how that percentage gets driven up there.
