Fees

Hi,

I have a store, and am supposed to get 250 free auction and fixed listings a month. I relisted some items this morning, the 1st, and changed them from fixed price to auction, and they charged me $5.75 in insertion fees. Are any of you having this same trouble? I think my fees are absolutely outrageous, and may be getting over charged.

So you have to be careful when listing because sometimes the system will default to certain options. An example of this would be the 'bold' option being checked (so instead of checking it, you need to un-check it). Also, the enlarge photo option costs more (and I have had it default to this as well). I would check that bold option, because I think it may be $3. Also, if you are listing in more than one category the fees double. I'm sure another seller will come along with other suggestions, but I wanted to mention the default settings, as that has been an issue for a very long time. I just know now to un-check it when listing/relisting. Also, ALWAYS look at that fee amount at the bottom right before you hit the 'list' button, even if you are expecting it to be a 'free' listing. It is the best way to catch these things.

I took a quick look at your auctions just listed at approx 5am and counted 5 that have gallery plus: 4 sewing patterns & the wine press. So that would have been an additional 70cents each. It's that little magnifying glass symbol in the bottom right corner, that enlarges pictures so that customers don't need to click into the auction to get a better view of the item. I could be wrong, but I am thinking you might not have wanted that on a lower-priced item such as the patterns (of course, I could be wrong).

My apologies if you already know or are familiar with the gallery plus or other options. I am really just trying to be helpful, because I know how frustrating it was when I realized those extras were being automatically added to my listings. I hope you are able to get it all figured out.

The free auction-format insrtions can only be used in 13 specific categories, listed here:

And craft categories such as sewing patterns are not included.    Besides, when you relisted the items the fees should have been visible before you clicked the List button.

Those are listed in the Collectibles category, where Gallery Plus is free. Also, when it's not free, the fee is 70 cents only if the opening bid price  over $150.

Thank you for clarifying. Any thought on what those extra costs may be? I suspicion  it has to do with those tricky defaults that fall in Ebays favor. I am not a conspiracy theorist type of person, but I know that every time I go to relist in bulk, there is *always* one in the middle of the group that suddenly has an additional option added. If I'm not on quard each time, it's easy to just click that confirm button, and there is another small fee added to my monthly total. Just as many newer sellers are not realizing that their shipping is defaulting to Priority. When I check to see if they would consider Parcel on a Large heavy item (shipped cross-country) they almost always say they never meant for it to be Priority, and proceed to add Parcel option. My guess is there are many listings being passed by because of that default to Priority, making the shipping costs for non-fragile, heavy loads ridiculously high.

As already mentioned, many of the listings are in categories that are not free for auction format if you have a store.
