Re: Fees

Please review eBay’s cost structure closely. eBay imposes a 14.9 percent fee on both collected taxes and shipping fees, inflating the cost of sales to approximately 19 percent, as sellers are charged for expenses and fees not directly tied to revenue received.

To sustain sales on eBay, sellers are often compelled to accept these terms, as non-compliance typically results in minimal transactions. By allocating up to 50 percent of sales revenue to eBay fees, sellers consistently gain greater visibility and sales volume. eBay openly promotes this through daily posts, Promoted Listings advertising, and various creative methods to extract seller funds.

However, this approach frequently leads to losses on individual sales, compounded by overhead costs such as shipping materials, labor, rent, and insurance. While eBay’s investment in its platform may justify their fees, the financial strain on sellers is significant. Regrettably, costs on other platforms are often even higher.

This has been going on for years.  How did you not know this if you file income taxes? You have to take your gross total of sales from eBay and subtract the fees and expenses to get your net income.  This would have been part of the equation.

Re: Fees

@continentalcollectibles

We were discussing much of this on a thread you started.  I gave you the list of FVFs charged for each category.  There is NOT a category that charges 14.9% FVFs.  There are some that charge 15%.  But since you have an Anchor Store, you should be getting a discount on that rate.

There is not a category that charges 19% FVFs either.  To get to that rate, your math is not considering that Ebay charges the FVF on the Total amount that a buyer pays.

Now that isn't to say that their aren't other costs involved with selling here, because there certainly are.  But if you want to discuss FVFs, adding in other stuff doesn't help and only confuses the conversation.

"By allocating up to 50 percent of sales revenue to eBay fees, sellers consistently gain greater visibility and sales volume. eBay openly promotes this through daily posts, Promoted Listings advertising, and various creative methods to extract seller funds."  IMHO any seller that utilizes Promoted Listings and choose to set their percentage of additional fees so high as to get to a 50% FVF is ridiculous.  On a category that Ebay charges 15% FVF means the seller has chosen to have their PL rate at 35%.  I personally don't see a good future in that for a seller doing that.

Ebay's FVFs are very competitive for sites like this.  They aren't the highest nor are the the lowest.

Most sellers don't use Promoted Listings at certainly not at a rate of 35%.  PL works great for some categories and not so much for others.  We each have to find what works best for us.

Some are trying to make this more complicated than it is.  Ebay charged their FVF on the TOTAL that the buyer pays through Managed Payments, period.  So yes if tariffs are charged and paid to Ebay then we have to pay FVFs on that amount too.  I personally have not had this happen yet, so I have no experience with it being charged through Ebay or if it is a separate charge the buyer pays customs.
