Fees and other beefs.

Between higher fees and softening sales, eBay has run it's course with me.  It used to be profitable but now, it's just another waste of my time and money.

@pjm5812

What higher fees?  What category do you sell in?  How much did your FVFs go up by and when?

For most categories if a seller doesn't have a store they are paying 12.9% FVF to Ebay.  That is just about the same rate we have paid them for the last 3+ years.

Before Managed Payments we paid about 10% to Ebay for FVF and 2.9% to Paypal plus the 30 cent per transaction fee [now about 49 cents on PP] for their fees.  We now pay it all 10 % + 2.9% = 12.9% plus a 30 cent per transaction fee to Ebay.

What specifically is happening to you?  Are you promoting your listings?

My thoughts are the same. ebay cut all my traffic to nothing, all while they continue milking me for $60 a month for my store subscription. A lousy 40 to 50 views a day isn't going to drive meaningful sales for anyone.

I'm dropping my prices to try and clear out my store as much as possible over the next couple of months, then I'm shutting it down.

I have my own traffic too, thanks in part to my 800+ youtube videos. But there's no way to integrate an ebay store with youtube. Sure, I could dump links in the descriptions, which hardly anyone reads.

Youtube now has options to advertise my products directly on my own videos, which pretty much makes my ebay store worthless at this point.

I really don't like the idea of sending traffic to ebay either, as ebay always advertises identical products from your competitors directly in your own listings.

While other platforms reward me for my hard work, ebay just robs me. Its a pathetic money grab, and I'm tired of it. The fees here are too high, regardless of the volume of sales you get, there's no profit left to be had.

What higher fees? ebay charges me 14.7% FVF + 10%+ advertising fees + 30 cents per transaction. They take 25%+ of the entire sale on average, its pure greed. And that doesn't include the $60 a month I pay for my premium store subscription.

@gamersbaystore

Why pay for a Premium Store when you only list to the Basic Store level and sell at a Starter Store level (or less)?

I had a pretty good couple weeks actually.

You cannot list items and just forget about them until they sell. That used to work but doesn’t any longer.

ebay will decide the item is stale and quit showing it to buyers. An ebay rep said 9 months on a YouTube at ebay open and that has turned into 90 days on the board here somehow. Regardless, at some point the item doesn’t get shown anymore with verbatim search of its title. Of course they still charge you for the listing, they just don’t show it to anyone.

when you have a lot of these stale items it seems like it puts your whole store in a hole. I have been in the hole a couple times.

You need to revisit old listings continually and make meaningful change, Otherwise to the hole you go. I revisit at least as many items I list everyday.

It makes sense if you think about it. More sellers than ever. Listing more junk then ever. There are people just continually listing junk nobody will ever buy by the thousands. There has to be a way to filter that out for buyers. Don’t get caught in the filter.

For everything that happens conditions exist such that nothing else could have happened.

But a basic store only covers 1K listings, and I have a lot more than that. Then I'd be stuck paying listing fees on hundreds of listings every month, no way. I'm getting rid of my store anyway.

Have you noticed that many of the posters of similar complaints do not want any logical responses?

They've gone up for me:

Fees Percentage of total sales in 2020 (Including Paypal Fees; No TRS Discount) = 12.4%

Fees Percentage of total sales in 2022 (Including Top Rated Seller Discount) = 13.5%

When I stated the 12.9% fees, I did clarify that to be the FVF in most categories where the seller did not have a Store.  You sell in one of the categories that has a higher FVF, that of course is true, your category is 14.6%.  I did not list all the various FVFs for every category.  Is that something you'd like me to do?

IDK what you are talking about regarding a "10% advertising fee" unless you are voluntarily using the Promoted Listing Tool and YOU decided you were willing to pay an additional 10% in FVFs to make a sale.  This is a tool that sellers can choose to use if they want and the seller sets the FVF percentage that they want to pay from 2% and above.  So why you consider this "greed" on Ebay's part when it is the seller that sets this fee is interesting.  It has such a simple solution.  Don't use the tool.

There are perks of the store level you have and they have value too.  But again if you don't think you are getting a value that exceeds the price of the store, stop having a store.  It is another thing that is your choice to have or not to have.  Sometimes things are by choice of the seller and certainly within your control.

Oh you mean the store level you have DOES have value to you?  Yet you complain about paying the fee to have the store!
