Was scanning over some threads about the laziness and lack of feedback from buyers. I do agree that it's somewhat rude that so many buyers seems to think it's unnecessary. Some sellers suggest that it may be best at times that feedback isn't left, if the buyer has chosen to ignore making a complaint about something. This may be true, but Ebay has created an environment where this "feedback" is the only way to increase one's star rating -- so how can the lack of feedback be unimportant??
I happened to enter the selling community back when the ratings were scored differently and people's star ratings were advanced much quicker. I think many sellers now with super high numbers are carrying over from the old system.....am I wrong? There is no way some of these people would have these high numbers if it was only from the current feedback system. Seeing as how there are some buyers who REALLY DO pay attention to star ratings........it seems Ebay has just made it far more difficult for sellers to advance. It seems unfair that sellers who sell items that sell more slowly, end up looking like less effective sellers than people who sell quick selling, lower priced items by the hundreds and therefore have more possibility of getting a feedback. I don't think these ratings are a true reflection of the seller's integrity or value.
I hope I'm making sense...lol.

----------
Because your star rating is unimportant.
Generally speaking.
Defects.. two of which are basically fatal...
is the prime focus sellers should be aware of.

And I have no problem buying from a seller who has
50 (or 5) positive selling feedback, with 4.9 DSR's
than I do with
A seller who has 500 or 5000 selling feedbacks
with good DSR's

I think it's rude for a seller to say it's rude that a buyer doesn't leave feedback.
As a buyer I give money to a seller for the item I purchased, if they are not happy with my money I doubt that they would be any happier if they got feedback.
As a seller I want buyers to send me money, if they want to thank me with feedback they are welcome to do so but it's not necessary as I'm here for money not for thanks.
Into your life it will creep

feedback percentage is based on 12 months not on the whole history and your "star"rating has little bearing on your selling account since it is based on how many feedback you have received both as a buyer and a seller.
i would hesitate to be buy from a user with tourquois star but no sells history
This is a user to user board not eBay employees.

It helps the seller and other buyers when a buyer leaves feedback. But, it does not help as much as it did a few years ago because of eBay's Money Back Guarantee.
I do my part to help other sellers get more feedback. When more sellers participate in the feedback program for buyers, more buyers will participate in the feedback program for sellers.

Still not true. Sellers who leave feedback for every buyer only report receiving 20 to 30% feedback.

If it is NOT true that sellers who leave feedback first get more feedback from their customers, then there are two possibilities:
1. The seller would receive the same amount of feedback whether he/she left feedback first or waited until the buyer left feedback
OR,
2. The seller would get more feedback from customers if the seller did not leave feedback first.
If (1) is true, it would be more logical for the seller to leave feedback right after printing the postage label because that is the fastest and easiest way to do it.
If (2) is true, it would be more logical for the seller to leave feedback first because some customers want to receive feedback so much that they are willing to leave feedback first just because it MIGHT cause the seller to leave feedback. Some of those customers would be aggravated enough at having to leave feedback first to cause them to give lower ratings and to not buy from that seller again.

One's 'star rating' doesn't put food on one's table.

I mostly sell on ebay, but whenever I buy something, I don't care about how many feedbacks they have. As long as they've got what I'm looking for at the right price, and as long as their description looks professional, the number of feedbacks under their belt isn't of concern to me.
"I don't think these ratings are a true reflection of the seller's integrity or value."
I don't think it's always a true reflection of a seller, but it can help buyers avoid some of the sellers who consistently seem to have problems.
Interesting post, though, and definitely food for thought.

Have you ever been to Target, and asked to see the manger so that you can thank them for being there?
Just about every time I go shopping, the workers will thank me for shopping there. It gets printed on my receipt. It's on the wall over the door when I leave.....

I go to a special place every Tuesday to have fun and I always thank many of the employees I see there for whatever they may do or offer to do for me; bring me a cup of coffee, bring me some change, ask if I'd like something to eat. They don't have to do any of that but they do and I am grateful. I am there and they are happy because without me (general me), they would not have a paycheck.
When I leave, most everyone thanks me for having stopped by. I guess it's a two way street. But I certainly don't walk in and say ... Thank you for having me. Although most say thanks for coming by.
I used to wait to see what my buyers would do where feedback was concerned after they received their item(s), but decided it would be in my best interest to leave them feedback right after I received their money, not because they paid me but just in the event they are the kind of buyer who likes to get good feedback right away.
I expect to be paid - with no problems.
They expect to receive their merchandise - in the condition I described.
* If they pay right away, that's great .... fast payment!
* If they take too long to pay and I have to send a reminder ... I will but I will still leave positive feedback after receiving MY money.
* If I have to send 2 reminders, I 'll do that, too. I will but I will still leave positive feedback after receiving my money.
* If I am forced to open a Unpaid Item Case ... I will ... but it depends upon how I feel the transaction, as to whether I will go immediately and leave positive feedback or wait.
* After they receive the item, if they leave feedback saying they're happy, I'm delighted and will leave the same.
* Since I have not had anyone leave any negative feedback, I am grateful.
