Feedback is such a waste. I've decided to stop sending feedback until I receive positive feedback. I'm not boosting anymore buyers accts when they don't have the common courtesy to do the same. The reason is 5 out of 10 buyers who have 100% feedback and buy on a regular basis refuse to send feedback to the seller regardless of the level of communication, quality of item, super fast shipping or 5 star feedback you leave for them. If you send them a friendly reminder after a few weeks they ignore it. I've seen other sellers who post in their description that positive feedback will be offered in return for positive feedback. I won't post that in my listing but from today forward I will not send feedback unless it is received. What are your thoughts about that and how many of you sellers out there have this same issue and how do you handle it. I take it personally. I strive to make sure everything I send it as described and quality. I also don't appreciate a buyer sending an offer that I cannot accept and they buy it anyway and send negative feedback yet wont return the item for a full refund, and e-Bay allows that to happen, or a buyer says 2 weeks after getting their item that it was missing a button when the button was clearly visible in all photos provided and they are allowed to leave negative feedback and affect my rating. Tell me what you think??

When I am the buyer I wait for the item, inspect it, and leave positive feedback if the product is as described. Whether or not the seller leaves feedback is of no consequence to me. Before I buy I always check the feedback of the seller, after all I can not see the seller or the product so to me feedback rating is important. Another way to look at feedback for a seller is like leaving a tip for a bartender or a waitress, it's not mandatory but it's nice.
When I am the seller I always wait for the buyer to leave feedback first. If they don't I don't either. I do not send a reminder or anything like that, I just move on.

wrote:"Paying does not complete your obligation, although many seem to think it does. Most of the bad behavior a buyer can display will occur after paying, hence why some sellers wait. They cannot post a neg about that behavior, but they can wait to be sure that glowing thank you is truly deserved, and you did not threaten bad feedback for a partial or full refund, file a false SNAD to get the seller to pay your return shipping, cancel after buying or winning, send back a rock instead of the item you were supposed to return."
What difference does it make if a seller gives a "glowing thank-you" to a buyer who later tries to cheat the seller?
The difference is the seller may feel they rewarded bad behavior, and that they lied when they posted that feedback, since the buyer then displayed bad behavior. The seller may not be happy under those circumstances.
Why would a seller want to treat his/her other 199 customers out of 200 the same way the seller treated the one-in-200 who did something wrong? And, lets the other 199 good customers know the reason they are not getting feedback is because the seller is afraid they may do something wrong?
They would not be treating the other 199 the same as those buyers would get feedback when the transaction is over as signified by the buyer. There is NO reason for the seller to let the buyer know anything. If asked, as others have said, they can just let the buyer know they are waiting for the buyer to signal all is well.
If the seller will give a feedback right after the buyer leaves positive feedback, did the seller probably think the buyer was obligated to leave positive feedback? I would be afraid my customers would think that about me if I didn't leave feedback.
No, most likely the seller understands that feedback is voluntary. They may prefer that the buyer go first, but most understand that since feedback is voluntary, each party is allowed to post however they choose to.
No need to worry about what others may think of you. I doubt most buyers are pondering why the seller did not leave them feedback or what they thought of them~and I doubt most sellers are wondering what the buyer thought if they did not leave feedback.

After 10 days I have received feedback for none of those 6 items.
Any more snarky advice from the jaded and supremely knowledgable sellers on here?
Honestly, I'm done with eBay. The attitude here sucks. The sellers that were friendly and helpful have been drowned out or driven away. You can have it.
Possibly you are overlooking the voluntary part of feedback here. I am sorry you did not get any feedback after leaving it ten days ago. But many buyers AND seller post in batches, some whenever they feel like it, some monthly, some quarterly. No cut and dried pattern and sorry if you got that impression, or felt that advice or attitude was snarky. The whole point of it being voluntary is either party can choose to leave feedback or not, whenever they feel like.
But please know that while you may not have received feedback for that which you posted it for, that does not mean that you will never receive feedback for it.
But it could be sellers are tired of posting feedback for buyers who don't reciprocate. Most sellers who post feedback at payment for every buyers report they only receive 30% feedback in return.
BTW, I am a buyer~a long time buyer. It is puzzling that someone who has bought here for twenty years will leave because they are not getting feedback. But of course your choice, and I wish you all the best.

I received a neg the other day from a liar, that claimed I did not package the item well, and would not respond to email sent by them..both these were lies.. I packaged the item better than I would for a domestic shipment but cant help if Taiwan is using antiquated mail sort machinery that eats 6X4X4 inch packages and crushes the box along with smearing black dirty grease all over the package..is that my fault?

"If a seller leaves positive feedback after payment is received (but not cleared by Paypal) and/or when they ship, a whole host of issues can come up after that and the feedback can't (I don't think?) be changed or revoked."
Yes, the feedback left by a seller can be changed by adding more words to it.
That is one of the main reasons sellers want to leave feedback for every customer. They want to be able to add to it if the buyer does something bad. The seller cannot say anything bad about the buyer, but the seller can say something about what happened if worded carefully.
Of course, a seller wants to leave feedback before a buyer does something bad because many sellers dislike giving a positive to a buyer after the buyer does something bad.

You should have considered using that reply to tell future buyers that you are responsive. Future buyers don't care that that buyer asked you to ship to Taiwan. They want to know that you did respond to their concerns. You totally missed that boat.

Absolutely! A professional response will help future buyers in deciding whether or not to buy from you. Sorry, OP.

A couple years ago I sold a $10 card to someone, they got the card. They said it was not "mint" even though it was pulled in front of me and sold right away.
I said to send it back for full refund. They wanted to keep the card and get full refund. I said it did not work that way. They did not answer me for a week. They filed claim with Ebay, it was denied because they tried to do the same thing by keeping the card and get full refund. AFTER Ebay denied them, they left me negative and said "bad seller. would not refund card." I emailed Ebay and they said "tough luck, but you have great feedback anyway!" Yeah, sure. Now its 99.9% instead of 100%. I decided to wait a couple months, I bought a card from that same person. Paid for it and received it. I left them negative and said "bad seller. Card damaged. Over priced shipping." They left me angry response but did not realize it was me! Anyways, Ebay does not care!

Oh, those would be good reasons if feedback for buyers worked that way.
Those sellers still think that "feedback" for buyers lets other sellers know if it is a good buyer or not. They think that if they gave feedback to a bad buyer, other sellers would look at the feedback and think the buyer did everything right.
It would be good if those sellers would read the discussion boards about feedback where all of us tells them that feedback for buyers is worthless as a way to let other sellers know if the buyer is good or bad. They would learn that a buyer cannot do anything with one more feedback than he/she can do with the feedback they already have.
Instead of putting so much importance on feedback for buyers, those sellers could concentrate on learning how to sell their items and how to save time.

Seller should leave positive feedback first if paid on time. Buyer may or may not leave feedback. It's not an obligation on buyer's end, but Seller should have class to leave feedback. I look at sellers' feedback behavior to determine whether I care to enter into trade with them, and how they treat buyers is reflected in the feedback footprint.

Right, because getting your feedback is so much more important than getting an item that matches the description.

You are right, we have delt with the same. There is at least half that never do and never will. Your right again if they dont care why should you. The ones that do care are usually the ones to remind you just after a day or two and are completley rude about it. For the most part its just a waist of time. But us sellers will continue to do our best even if we dont care because we pretty much have to. best regards

Here's what I've been thinking of doing.
If you leave me feedback I'll do the same and leave a positive with glowing if it went okay.
After 30 days all feedback will be a neutral. And they get a 1 star for communication since they didn't use the chance to leave a feedback. Tthey didn't communicate how awesome I am.

Really wish we could give more than just one helpful when warranted. Would send you bouquets!
