Feedback extortion

I’ve had 100% rating for over a decade on this account. I was just threatened with a negative feedback if I did not give a partial refund. I immediately contacted CS and was told not to worry, any negative feedback would be removed because item was about size and shown clearly next to a ruler. ( Diamond Huggies ) I refused the shakedown and ignored buyer once the extortion message came in. Neg of course was left claiming I enlarged pics ( on diamonds- lmao. Most buyers demand zoomed in pics to see clarity and color!) So I requested removal. Denied stating it was INAD - when no return request was opened for INAD???money back guarantee ??? I then escalated to the “ offline team” which immediately denied the request to remove because eBay didn’t want to get involved in a buyer’s opinion.
Another thing-I thought a buyer had to wait 7 days to leave bad feedback? Guess that changed too!
So I’m furious. I buy & collect way more than I sell. eBay is making 18% off my sales. Ended all of my listings, made FB private, returning items.
So beware. What stuck out to me was “ Buyers don’t expect to see 100% positive feedback “ in this new garbage update.
100% positive feedback is a reputation I’ve strived to attain and sustain. 1 buyer clearly violating eBay policy can ruin it with no recourse from a seller.

Re: Feedback extortion

Couple of reasons she might have chosen 'INAD' instead of admitting she just doesn't like it (or her husband busted her for using the credit card to feed her expensive pen addiction again, or whatever).
1. She didn't realize you have free returns and is used to having to lie to get a free return from most sellers.
2. She knew you had free returns but still didn't want to admit she didn't look at all the photos or really think about what she was seeing.

I wouldn't worry about her sending back a fake -I've had that fear about so many kinds of items and it's never happened to me, nor have I seen many posts about it here.  Kind of surprising really.  But if something like that does happen, come back and post about it BEFORE YOU PERFORM ANY ACTION OF ANY KIND.  Matter of fact tag me specifically -not to toot my own horn but I have a knack for beating fraudulent returns and chargebacks that most say are unbeatable (I even got a buyer kicked off the platform .... well that one account of theirs anyway, LOL).  There is a series of steps needed to beat each unique kind of fraud attempt, and they must be done in the right order.

But I really think this return will be fine, albeit irksome.  Kudos for doing free returns anyway; that is one weapon against fraudulent ones.

Re: Feedback extortion

I  had a similar situation with Negative Feedback.  I also have had positive feedback for over 20 years.  However when I got one, I was very upset, although Ebay told me one bad Feedback doesn't hurt my selling status.   I list a  lot of things with no returns.  However if there is a damage or mistake on my part, I do accept returns.   The buyer left me really nasty feedback, when I refused a return.  She claimed the clothing was marked the wrong size.  She neglected to read the description(which she later claimed).  I had specifically printed in large letters that the item ran small so look at all measurement to insure proper fit.  Couldn't do anything about the removal.  I had to bribe the buyer - I returned all her money, including shipping and told her to keep the item,  to get my negative feedback removed by her.  After all that she claimed she didn't know what to do with the item.

Re: Feedback extortion

So giving your item away for free was a better outcome than having even a fraction of a percent below 100% positive (which buyers seriously do not consider important whatsoever, but I guess your vanity is what matters).

And now what this buyer has learned is how to get stuff for free on eBay, or at least try to, and be a big pain in the butt to all of us sellers.  Thanks a lot.

Re: Feedback extortion

I usually block buyers who haggle me on clearance products. My negs and neutrals are only from that type.

Re: Feedback extortion

they did something similar to my wife - told her on the phone "Yes, you're covered" about a Buyer Refund -- then of course did nothing and Ebay took the money out of her Funds without asking. We eventually just stopped calling and asking for help
